hitesh p (nl) wrote: It seemed good, don't really have watched too many films about this subject but interesting to watch... uncontrolable perspectives of a complex dynamic subject that effects everyone... nothing i would want to own but a good watch especially if its on a movie channel..

Christine J (br) wrote: Totally action-packed and at times laugh out loud funny. Even with a completely implausible storyline and too graphically violent for my taste, it did manage to entertain for 90 minutes. Jason Statham is great British eye candy but Amy Smart totally steals the show playing his ditzy girlfriend.

Thomas D (it) wrote: Really funny, kind of sweet. Then again, I probably owe some thanks to Ai and Kimi for occasionally explaining what was going on...

Bill M (au) wrote: A dark and nasty revisionist western that throws horror and supernatural overtones into the mix, High Plains Drifter is Eastwoods subverting of the genre that made him, especially in the sometimes troubling spin on his "man with no name", he's not the hero, like we expect or even an anti hero, what he is is subject to speculation, at the very least a dark figure of vengeance and retribution, one thing he most certainly is is a total bastard, especially the fact that he actually rapes a woman, the films most difficult and troubling moment, it's Eastwoods most clear and brutal subversion of his iconic figure, but there's a "she wanted it really" overtone that leaves a seriously queasy feeling in the gut and a bad taste in the mouth, maybe it's the totally fucked sexual politics of the time, but still, uneasy questions linger over the scene. However, Clints clearly not a good guy at all here and this plus the movies unrelentingly harsh, creepy, black as night tone mark it out as a truly unusual western.

Jason M (ru) wrote: Probably the most beautifully filmed Stanley Kubrick movie. This period piece during the Crimean War, tells Thackeray's novel of the same name.Ryan O'Neil stars in the prime of his career and shows him at the top of his craft. Each shot was meant to be as perfect as a portrait. The perfectionism of the costumes, cinematography, screenplay and acting are superb. The scene of Barry Lyndon at his young son's bedside is one of the saddest scenes that I have ever witnessed. The tragic rags to riches to rags story portrays the life of an Irish rogue in British high society.Certainly not Kubrick's finest, but even this achievement stands head and shoulders over most other period films.
