Luckily the build up offers enough subtle chills to maintain interest and forgive the inevitable failings of the reveal. Clearly "influenced" by Poltergeist it is a shame that the remake of said film failed in all the areas Insidious worked. Not sure why they had Darth Maul as the bad guy though.

We know that at some point Affleck's character will have to come clean to Paltrow's, and we know when it will happen (in the third act prior to their happily ever after, and we know essentially exactly how every part of the plot will play out. It's still somehow watchable though. It's a slightly darker romantic comedy than is typical, which sets it apart a bit. The other element that sets it apart are the ways in which it reminds one of 9/11 (the film was made in 2000). Pretty much a throwaway picture, which means it is watchable, but not memorable.

(kr) wrote: Neat little film, though it's not Pasolini's best. The only transfer of this available on Region 1 really sucks. It's unbelievable how much it sucks and how little time obviously went into putting it together. The subtitles are godawful as well, this really deserves some Criterion attention immediately. Anyway, you can't beat a line like "I killed my father, I ate human flesh and I quiver with joy." Anne Wiazmsky's cool too.

(ru) wrote: Odd, creepy film with a feeling of ambivalence towards all the characters. Somewhat predictiable towards the end but Simone Signoret is always worth watching and Caan and Katharine Ross, just before The Graduate, also turn in good work.

It seemed that some parts of the plot with minimal significance were given too much time. Still it was good to see a same sex relationship presented in an honest way without judgement or normalisation.
