(jp) wrote: A visual tour de force film that recently won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. The story of Jep Gambellrado a one hit wonder author that's been riding the wave of success for as long as he can.Filled with unforgettable cinematography & some of the most gorgeous & lush photography of the city of Rome itself.Jep's honesty & reflective look at his self & his current state of emptiness is intriguing. The people that populate his journey are fascinating, and you really see how empty a life of chasing status can be.

Though the slow process of the film may let it lose some impatient audience it still worth to take a look. The best way to deceive a person, is to let yourself into him. In fact, the "illness" of Claire is an exaggerated amplification of the old man, so how can't he bite the enticement? The whole film is asking one question. How much would a people pay to save himself from the moment of loneliness and self-pity?

(fr) wrote: The story and plot is actually much better than 2012. Unfortunately, it didn't get the budget and acting 2012 did so it comes off as overly melodramatic sci-fi channel stuff. If you can tolerate indie-style low-budget films, it's worth watching. The FX aren't actually that bad, but the transitions, direction, and acting prevent the film from whipping you up into its reality.

(ca) wrote: An entertaining heist movie with some good plot twists. Denzel Washington carries this film from start to finish with a good supporting cast as well. Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, William Dafoe, Christopher Plummer, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all good as well. This is a good addition to the bank robbing genre. Good job Spike Lee.
(nl) wrote: ...passionate and honest ~ this is a story of an uncontrolled attempt to bring love and passion into an unhappy life. Boredom and sexual frustration have taken Suzanne (Kristin Scott Thomas) to a level that even she does not realise, until the rogue Ivan (Sergi Lopez) appears in her life, and unleashes a passion and desire that goes beyond all reason and thought. Samuel (Yvan Attal), Suzanne's successful husband, who comes across as 'run of the mill' spouse, is unable to pacify his wife's feeling in any way, and is forced to step aside as Suzanne, leaving him and their two children, leaves them for Ivan. The story isn't a happy one for Suzanne and Ivan, as they cannot support themselves, and are forced in desperate measures. Not a happy film, but a good one, and very real. It does not attempt to 'sugar coat' any of the bitterness that surfaces between Suzanne and Samuel. Kristen Scott Thomas is clearly as good an actress speaking in french, and, as always, produces an excellent performance. Enjoyed it...

(ru) wrote: Mission: Impossible is a breath of fresh air in a world of generally mindless summer blockbusters that require little in the way of thought on behalf of the audience. Generally, all that is required is the decision on what size popcorn and soft drink to buy in the lobby, but in this case, the film delivers plenty of impressive visual stunts and action framed smartly around a plot that dares to move past the mundane, offering a genuinely mysterious narrative that lends both credence and importance to the action. Unfortunately, the latter two films in the series, particularly the second, veer more towards straight Action with minimal plotting, but cinephiles will undoubtedly enjoy De Palma's somewhat avant-garde style of filmmaking found here, particularly as it is combined with elements that make it, superficially, a summer popcorn movie.
