Rey P (fr) wrote: Not as good as the book (no movie ever is) but was really good. The scenery looked almost exactly as I had envisioned while reading. The graphic gory parts of the novel were toned down. The film could have been much darker, which would have made it better. Aside from that I was satisfied with the adaptation.

Lou A (au) wrote: An interesting concept and a good share of effort, but still somewhat of a letdown. The idea of humanizing Dracula, by giving him a sympathetic backstory, works for the most part. As does giving him new abilities and viscerally showing audiences what it is like for him to possess them. But this is the first film for both the writers and the director, and it shows. Evans is very good, and he has great chemistry with Gadon, but the development of their romance feels lacking, much like every other aspect of the story. It is evident that the screenplay could have used a re-write. The climax, however, is actually beautifully dark, thrilling, and shot superbly. Overall it entertains, but Universal's main purpose with this film (to establish a shared cinematic universe with reboots of their classic movie-monsters) is just, for the lack of a better word, downright silly.

Justin G (es) wrote: I don't know how anyone who recognizes what this film is trying to do could give it a thumbs down. No, we're not dealing with a "Citizen Cane" here. It's a rather absurd comedy, and is quite entertaining in that role. The cheap shots are MEANT to look cheap. The clichs are transparent, and deliberately so. If you're looking for high-brow entertainment, this is not going to be your film. If you want some cheap laughs, and some great quotes that you and your friends will be throwing at each other for a while, then this is wonderful.Jesus and I love you!
