The film doesn't entirely live up to the expectations one may have for a collaboration between these two cinematic forces, but like most of their movies, there's plenty here to marvel at. Herzog offers a crime drama without the drama"instead, it delves into the fractured psyche of a criminal trying to find his role (literally so) in the world. Michael Shannon is hypnotic and unsettling as a disturbed murderer trapped inside his own Sophoclean tragedy.

Linda Fiorentino tries to be a strong woman as cold-hearted as Sharon Stone, but while doing this looks like an arrogant high school-girl. The male characters supposed to be seduced could be a little less naive and boyish, after all they are supposed to be well-educated, successful men.I stay puzzled how this could get a better rating than Basic Instinct.

Justin A (us) wrote: It gets compared to The Howling and An American Werewolf in London, but I found it more comparable to Cat People (albeit, this one with wolf people instead of cat people). It's a bit slow to get going, but the final act is great. The POV of the wolves gets tiresome, so seeing the wolves snarling and howling in the final act as they kill and terrorize people is much more exciting than the first hour or so. There's a bit of blood with a pretty good decapitation scene in the movie. A very overlooked and under appreciated "werewolf" movie, but maybe not a classic either. Worth checking out if you like the aforementioned movies.
