Gianluca C (kr) wrote: I thought it was a little scatterbrained and inconsistent. For example: at first, you think this person (I won't spoil it) is completely flawless, likeable and inspiring, and then all of a sudden she is incredibly flawed. This idea is good, however the movie brings this out of nowhere for it to be satisfying and make sense. Despite the flaws, I did like Eva Green and the movie's atmosphere.

Lee M (kr) wrote: I suppose it accomplishes it's goal of being innocuous family entertainment.

Brandon S (au) wrote: Nimrod Antal does something very impressive here. He keeps things moving, maintains a sense of urgency, and composes beautiful images while making us care. It's like the blueprint for making an effective, yet bloodless, slasher story.

Matthew H (kr) wrote: It's astounding that American Beauty was Sam Mendes's directorial debut; it is a film of awe and wonder, and is the kind of film you would expect from a seasoned director who knows how to incrporate complex themes and imagery into his/her movies. Nonetheless, it is an amazing picture about how not to judge a book by its cover, because the inside might be nasty and problematic. Its gorgeous cinematography, excellent acting, and superb direction earn its Best Picture Oscar.

Stefanos T (kr) wrote: Unique in cinema is not a word that is brought out very often. Mishima - A Life in Four Chapters is one of the most unique films ever created and that group is really small. A fascinating biopic about a Japanese writer whose ideals were misunderstood by the public. The film successfully manages to immerse you into his psyche, and makes you crawl under the subject's skin. Fascinating stuff.
