(nl) wrote: Does its best to follow the All Star comic storyline, but leaves quite a bit out. Still, it works well enough to be entertaining.

Not that I thought this movie was going to be great or anything, but I didn't expect to be cringing in my seat and having to wait 15 to 20 minutes for a laugh to come along. Note for the future: don't get stoned and make an entire feature film with your buddies. It may be fun at the time but when you cut that shit together it churns out a terrible fucking picture. I mean seriously, why even make this a narrative movie. Just go out with a video camera after doing massive bong rips and make a wildlife documentary. I got a lot of respect for the cast but this kick to the nuts film made me lose a little of that.

(mx) wrote: Nicolas Cage's ridiculous fake accent makes it a hard movie to take seriously. Even beyond that it was an awful display of overacting from the cast as a whole. (First and only viewing - In my early twenties)

Gus van Sant aptly segregated the two movies by some intelligent scenes in the movie. A young writing prodigy finds Connery as his mentor who also happen to be an 'One Book Wonder'! Connery is perfect in his role as a reclusive author of 'Avalon Landing'. Watch it with patience.
(nl) wrote: Who knew a swedish comedy could be so amazingly funny? Ever since it first came out in 1999, I always wanted to see this, but for some reason I never got around it. Now that I finally have, I'm happy to say it was as great as I had hoped. The story, revolving around a repressed yuppie lawyer with a very active, sexually-oriented imagination, is as raunchy as it is entertaining. The recognition factor is embarassingly high (especially if you're a guy), as the thoughts and fantasies of its main character rings hauntingly true. But that's what I liked about it, because it's honest in a way that few films ever are. Highly recommended to all the Swedes out there ;-)
