Never on a Sunday

Julio Salas dies after a long illness, but it is Sunday and due to financial difficulties, his family is forced to contract the services of a modest funeral home, whose owner having taken charge of the corpse, sells it to the University. The nephew learns of the deal and demands that his uncle s body end up in the cremation oven, falling in love with the funeral owner s daughter in the process. This story about a corpse that cannot find peace, is handled in accordance with the canons of black comedy over which the director displays a skillful mastery, provoking, with the aid of some excellent actors, grotesquely hilarious situations.

Al M (kr) wrote: This sequel becomes more of serial killer thriller than a supernatural horror film, yet The Pact II manages to be an entertaining yet thoroughly predictable horror film nonetheless....

Johnny T (ag) wrote: Sinbad offers some unusual advice on how to make friends in this wacky comedy. Turns out to be an inane fish-out-of-water comedy. Along the way it turns into a virtual McDonald's commercial, too. The fact that you can hardly tell the difference is a good clue to the movie's bad-television flavor. Like the housepest of the title, Sinbad's character here is more annoying than amusing and before the film is over you may just wish he'd go away. A film that lacks solid construction from the ground up, something that can't be "fixed in the editing," I'm afraid. Tedious and unfocused...the contrivance in this forgettable comedy is inexplicably unbearable. VERDICT: "Some Ole' Bulls**t" - Second lowest rating (Negative reaction). These films are truly terrible films. They are not the worst things ever made, but they are definitely awful and should not be seen by anyone.

Jenna I (jp) wrote: A great slice of life movie- I thought this film perfectly covered small town living, expectations and dynamics a bit better than it covered homosexuality, but that doesn't really take away from the film. The movie I felt was a bit too afraid to actually deal with Billy Joe's potential gayness, though in leaving room for you to interpret if he was actually gay or perhaps just taken advantage of is also an interesting dynamic either way. What I thought the most interesting lesson of this film was about how expectations in small towns are quite literally everything and any deviation can be soul crushing.

John A (mx) wrote: Middling Chaplin. The most interesting thing about this is the narrative that actually makes sense up to the big ending set piece. Each piece fits together, the film is impressively and briskly edited, and Chaplin has a funny moment after he poisons himself. That said, it eventually devolves into a gigantic fight that seems to have little purpose but to portray people fighting and falling. Silly.

Jennifer H (es) wrote: Could only get through about 45 minutes of this. The horrible casual racial slurs, boring one dimensional depiction of women & lack of real chemistry between the leads was most disappointing. I'm a movie buff & was most interrested to see this movie that I somehow missed seeing back in the day. But I was taken aback at the lack of humour too. I realise that racial walls were being torn down, so it was good in that respect, but there just wasn't enough to hold me.

Jim S (us) wrote: This is one confused narrative and it's acted by a very amateurish cast, which probably makes sense when you consider that it's about some high school kids restaging a play. I wonder who I have to talk to at The Movie Network to get back the 87 minutes of my life I wasted on this junk. To its credit is does have a couple of mildly effective boo scares.
