Paleontologist Robert Trenton (Dean Cain) is called to Northeastern Antarctica near the Indian Ocean to help the FBI build an underground maximum-security military base and prison for the world's most dangerous criminals and terrorists. The prison is dubbed "New Alcatraz" by the staff. While building the prison, the staff accidentally awaken and unleash a prehistoric Boa Constrictor from its 200 year hibernation. The snake escapes unnoticed until the staff notice a massive hole chewed in the five-foot thick concrete walls. Soon, the staff, and prisoners begin disappearing as they are brutally hunted and eaten by the snake. The FBI agents, Trenton and the rest of the prisoners try to escape, but are hampered as they don't have many weapons. They begin to give up hope as most of the survivors die. However, Trenton manages to blow up the snake underground before escaping to the surface with the only other survivor being his wife.

Urban M (au) wrote: Simply one of the best horror comedies ever made: Shaun of the Dead balances just enough gore and minimal dose of fear, a heartfelt coming-of-age story (with a captivating lead performance by Pegg) and perfectly kinetic, precise British humour thanks to exceptionally good writing, excruciating attention to detail while never losing mind of the big picture, and Edgar Wright's signature style of visual comedy that never takes a single break.

She gets on my nerves most of the time with her giggling and her fake emotions. In this movie, she was supported by Fardeen Khan, who also lacks acting skills, which does not help things. It's an entertaining movie, but the dialogues and delivery leave to be desired. A DVD watch, not more.

For example, Rico changes from being a rich kid to a badass soldier, and you really see him getting better and better. The special effects, aged well. The aliens look intimidating even when they have the graphics of a 2003-2004 videogame, but their roars and how they are rendered makes them intimidating. The fights have thrills too, you are worried about Rico and his people. The plot, is kinda hit and miss. It's like a mix between a B-Movie and a drama, sometimes it takes itself seriously and sometimes it doesn't do it at all; I mean some characters even mock about some plot points. The music is ok. The main theme is easily remembered, and the theme where they go down and fight the aliens for the first time is pretty dramatic and helps the scene. Too bad the rest of the soundtrack is not as good.It doesn't matter if it is a bad adaptation of a book, it is a good movie on it's own.

Paul P (it) wrote: It is actually not a hyperbole to state that this film is on the same level as Nazi propaganda films. Apparently, the lack of "Jesus" in everyday American life, will lead to Soviet occupation, mass executions, child decapitations (oh yes, they show it!), and seeing your parents die because of your lack of faith. Never before had I seen a crossover between snuff and Christian movies. And it would all be "Laughably Bad" if the cinematography wasn't atrocious, the plot inexistent and the lead narrator a man whose speeches Adolf Hitler would give two thumbs up to. I'll give them credit though. It did make me go, several times: "Jesus Christ!"

Although Michael Caine is always very good in a role like this (in fact, his monologues addressed directly to the camera are evocative of his musings in the classic 'Alfie') the whole plot plays like a warmed-over sitcom, as Caine tries to keep his tryst between his buddy's teen-aged daughter and himself under wraps. Joseph Bologna does the slow burn as he attempts to find out who his daughter's lover is, but comes off as too intense a personality for what is supposed to be 'frothy' comedy. Young Michelle Johnson is an engaging beauty, but her acting chops just aren't there. Rounding out the cast is relative unknown Demi Moore, who serves only as a plot device. Good Rio locales keep you interested somewhat, but the whole affair is a bit of a bore.
