This was fun, as one might go in thinking that they know exactly where the film is going, only to be pleasantly surprised.Worth a rental.

(kr) wrote: Another beautiful disaster of a Tobe Hooper movie that I for one love every second of especially Patrick Stewart's hilarious cameo. You will never see the man make more of a fool of himself than in his scene. The Scene stealing Matilda May delivers a memorable performance for obvious reasons :). The entire concept of Space Vampires is enough to captivate my inner B-Movie desires into one out of ordinary film experience that is easily dismissible to the casual filmgoer. Hooper goes all out with the visuals even if some of the films effects are dated even for those days. What we get here is a huge budgeted Corman film that clearly Hooper was passionate over. On the down note there are so many scattered ideas here its almost hard to keep up with them all. In focus the film is a conundrum of convoluted ideas that will cause instant dismissal to the films better qualities. This was made for hardcore sci-fi B-movie lovers that will relish in all of the ideas no matter how asinine. After all we are talking about the director that reinvented the term asinine when it comes to film. Hooper is still the man.
(kr) wrote: Pretty lame sequel to the 1961 epic Guns of Navarone. "Sequel" is a bit of stretch, as the only commonalities between the two are two characters, and the title. Pretty much a conventional paint-by-numbers WW2 drama. Plot is not overly imaginative, and has numerous plot holes and contrivences. The military aspect is not entirely accurate.Performances are OK. Edward Fox gives his usual irritatingly stiff performance, however.
