Kyle C (kr) wrote: Were you picked on in High School? Did you always want an apology from the person or persons who did it so that you give them a second chance? Did the chance of that happening actually come, but the person was so stuck up that they wouldn't grant you that one request and then get angry when you do something rotten to them? If so, this may be the movie for you. Kristen Bell has something about her that just makes her irresistible to watch, even when the movie itself is terrible, now, I'm not saying that this is terrible or anything, actually i quite enjoyed it, A LOT, but i know a lot of people will not like this, because, no, it's not hilarious, and yes, it is mean spirited for the most part, but, it does also have a heart, which brightens up any movie. There are a few pointless, un-funny jokes, and believe it or not, they ALL came from Betty White, who was so great in The Proposal last year. It seemed to me that she didn't even think about the jokes, she just said them and moved on to the next scene, but this was still very good.

Dominic F (de) wrote: Remember Chiwetel Ejiofor, star of 2013 Top 40er 12 Years A Slave? His first major critical success was a murder mystery on the Top 40 Films of '002, Dirty Pretty Things. The central plot element is among the most disturbing homicides in film history. Ejiofor's character juggles many jobs, including taxis, room service, and medicine, and the homicide investigation begins when a prostitute sends him to Room 510. The toilet is overflowing, and he has to reach down the toilet to extricate something that the killer tried to flush down. It was clogged with the victim's heart! Okwe has two objectives: To save himself and a fellow hotel worker from deportation and/or prison, and to solve the murder and neutralize the threat.

Art S (ag) wrote: The mountainous terrain here on the Iran-Iraq border is truly spectacular and to think that Samira Makhmalbaf must have directed these actors, both very young and very old, to run, crawl, and do arduous things across this terrain lends the film a (slight) Herzogian tension. But otherwise this is a straightforward neorealist tale of two itinerant teachers with blackboards strapped to their backs seeking pupils in tiny villages. You have to wonder: "is this for real?" (in the modern world). At least one of the teachers does things that don't appear motivated (or very intelligent), such as getting married to a stranger on the spot without talking to her first. Ultimately, the film is heart-breaking because of the lives and fates of the characters that the teachers meet (and the teachers themselves). If it doesn't hold together as well as Bicycle Thieves, that's probably why it hasn't achieved classic status.
