(fr) wrote: Raw, naked, haunting & cold.A rapid & haunting way of showing the true face and consequences of brutal violence. Intensively and artistically this film displays a chaotic & desperate family, a destiny very honest and very haunting. Cinematography is stunning, as is the environment, which very well defines the fundamental characteristics of this film, cold, naked, intense & raw. Great debut by the very promising James Gray.

(ca) wrote: It's a movie that has a conflicted tone but ultimately is a good amount of fun. For the most part, it is pretty cheesy but sometimes it decides to be more dramatic. I do think it is less predictable than the second one but overall you can still somewhat figure out how the movie is going to play out. I enjoy it for what it is and it isn't as good as the original for sure. It'still a fun movie with a silly but enjoyable Mr. T. performance and a fun use of the song "Eye of the Tiger."
(gb) wrote: an intelligibly sexy, and sleek film noir with the right bit of grit and raw power. Stanwyck is a force of nature once again. The ending takes the noir genre's typical tendency to berate or antagonize the femme fatale, and adds a human touch, blaming no one, explaining the motives behind lily's psychology and then connecting all sympathies at the end, by returning stanwyck's character to her compassionate beginnings through the discovery of true love, and a man who she can finally depend on.

(de) wrote: Frankly, if you putAl Pacino,Christopher WalkenandAlan Arkinin your movie, you don't really need to worry about the script: we'd happily watch them do just about anything on-screen. And here they sieze every hint of humour, drama and action to keep us entertained and make us care about their characters. Indeed, they maintain their dignity by refusing to give in to the screenplay's lazy old-age jokes and convoluted plot.
