Well, I guess they wouldn't have chosen a shabby film to open the SF Jewish Film Fest. It also won an award at Sundance. This Israeli film is mostly in Hebrew but also French and English. Dror Shaul brings spunk and creative wit to what otherwise could have been seemingly boring life on a kibbutz. The plotline is simple, but the characters are rich and well developed and the cinematography is excellent. He really humanizes the characters, which helps you relate even if their way of living and societal norms are completely foreign to you. The ending left me feeling a bit depressed, though it did give a hint of hope for the possibility of a cathartic ending to the story.
(nl) wrote: Man, Charles Band, what happened to you? Yet another attempt for the Puppet Master series brainchild to try an capitalize on the killer 8 inch action figure genre (since then, he's done a couple of other ones as well). This one centers around a young girl who's abusive father kills her and buries her in the backyard along with her dolls. Fast forward to today about a little kid who is picked on by his older sister and her friends. Naturually, the ghost of the dead girl and the dolls come alive to kill all of the friends in various ways. Pretty campy with loads of bad acting and faulty storylines. How the hell are you going to let a small, stupid doll kill you? Loltastic. Poor Charles Band.

(it) wrote: "wow i was wrong when i rented this film solely on the cover with a cute baby smiling back at me!"This film was a bummer, 'Smiles like yours' was about the turbulances of a couple trying to concieve a child with no luck, i ended up giving into 45mins because the pace was slower then a snail. therefore i'm unsertian how it ends and really don't care. "Trust me it is that bad."
