Eric H (it) wrote: Given the stellar performances from its leads, I really wanted to love this film. I just can't. It's never dull or stupid or mean, none of the awkward, cringe-worthy stuff gets drawn out beyond the point of respectability and the film looks good, with slick direction and cheerful settings. It's just not funny.

Dan W (nl) wrote: Visually the film offers a depth and catharsis that one gets from studying intricate Oriental artwork. The line between the aggressive intent of violence and the visual poetry of martial arts is profound. However, the melodrama of the tryst and the double and triple crossing is ridiculous. I can only assume that it is a common dramatic function is Chinese dynasty story telling. Seriously, at some points the 'conspiracy' is like a comical twist you'd expect is Naked Gun or Austin Powers.Overall, this is worth watching but do it alone because with another you'll either end up taking the piss out of it or one person will pretend they 'get it' and the other will be like 'you're a wanker.'

Jordan K (de) wrote: Along Came Polly is a cult classic, I presume, but isn't well recieved by critics - I myself disagree, it's mediocre at best and feels extremely rushed and over the line cliched, but it's fun and is still a good ride, even if it's a bit dull and stupid at points.Ben Stiller playing the same character he always seems to in every movie once again is a bland workaholic who explores new territory in life when dating old middle school classmate Polly Prince. Ben attempts to balance his ex-wife, Polly, and his career along the lines of common risk.Along Came Polly is just meh. It's really just simple fun, nothing harmless to it except the story seems waaaay too quick and the characters are a bit bland. Stiller and Aniston don't seem to have much chemistry and neither do Stiller and Hoffman - who I honestly saw Jack Black fitting the line more for Hoffman's goofy former actor buddy role - but it's still fun. Some parts are a bit dumb, such as the blind ferret Polly owns, and it's a cliche date movie at its finest, but nothing beats fun unless it's over the top, in this case, it's just flawed.

Alex S (kr) wrote: Hellboy has incredible visuals to combine with Guillermo del Toro's typically assured hand and is a "superhero" movie worth watching if you can get past the admittedly familiar arc.

Brett E (ca) wrote: Could have used a much finer-tuned script. Vince Vaughn is his same old predictable character, sarcastic & rambling on and on. Reese Witherspoon tries to keep up, but doesn't bring the spark she usually does. A few funny moments can't make up for many dreary, tiresome, sitcom, trying-so-hard-to-be-outrageous moments.

Frances H (it) wrote: From all the hype about this film, I simply expected better. Although good, the story didn't mesh together very well. The acting was very excellent, as one would expect from such a stellar cast. Some of the plot lines weren't nearly as interesting as others and could have been shortened or eliminated. The message here that big oil runs our government and the CIA interferes in the governments of other countries to the point of assignation, none of this is anything new that we didn't already know. That innocent people who mean well are often thrown to the wolves is nothing new in the history of the world. Neither is the idea that corrupt officials will find scapegoats to pay for their sins, so that they go unpunished. A good, but far from great film.
