(it) wrote: This movie has the unlucky circumstance of being watched back to back with "Before We Go" with which it does share many similarities. Both are about two souls meeting at unlikely places, this one in front of a bar in Hong Kong where the other at grand central station in New York. One woman get lost trying to find a meeting place, the other lost her purse. One man is a banker, the other is a trumpet player. Both women are in their own seemingly weak relationships. One man is hang up with his old girlfriend, the other can't seem to hang out with his girlfriend. Both couple ended up at a fortune teller. But while "Before We Go" have smart dialogues and more complexity, "Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong" is overly monotone. The writer and director, Emily Ting, seemed to have over projected her into the story in contrast to the work of Ron Bass (et all) and Chris Evans for his directorial debut. Even though Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg are a real life couple, it did not seem to translate to chemistry on screen unlike Chris Evans and Alice Eve who were able to transmit vulnerabilities more than the previously mentioned couple. I would watch this movie as an Asian American but I was disappointed with the one dimensional aspect of this movie. The writer/director could have done a lot more. Maybe it is budget constraint or lack of experience or whatever it is, I was left with something missing. Not the same feeling I ended up with after watching Chris Evans directorial debut.

The best way to watch it is as a different version of Apocalypto - the trial and tribulation of a man hunted down, in this case it is not Mayan warriors chasing down out of revenge a backwater hunter who shamed them but a Roman centurion chased by the "barbaric" Pict warriors bent on revenge. It is worth the watch.

It put the movie in the right direction but failed in every other area. Nothing was developed in the movie: the acting, the characters, the method of kill. The cast all had a New York accent as well. That was just plain annoying. The cover of the film is pretty cool.
