(ag) wrote: The story is decent the cast is great and the cinematography is gorgeous. this pre lord of the rings Jackson comedy is a forgotten film that any true film buff should see. Although it's flawed and many of the effects look dated it's a great popcorn flick.
(au) wrote: This film follows two angels, Damiel and Cassiel, in 1980s Berlin, Germany. They spend their days listening to the thoughts of the human inhabitants and comfort those who are in distress. Even though the city is densely populated, many of the people are isolated or estranged from their loved ones. Damiel (Ganz) falls in love with a beautiful, lonely trapeze artist and seeks to become mortal.
(mx) wrote: Not your typical slasher. It follows more mystery thriller conventions than anything else, fit with a deliberately slow-pace, eerie atmosphere, and great performances all around. A hidden gem in the genre.
(gb) wrote: So here's a film that starts off just great, a good story, good characters, good acting, and just takes a two and a half hour nosedive right to the end of the film. It's cheesy, unbelievable garbage that goes on way too long and presents one aggravating scene after another until all we have left is a raw head from scratching it so much trying to figure out how two powerhouse filmmaking talents like Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond could've gotten it so wrong.

(mx) wrote: Gritty but flawed cop drama that has a premise that is ahead of it's time but doesn't quite work. The idea of a found footage cop film is especially interesting in present, with the spread of car & body cameras for the police, thus giving this film it's innovative feel. When director David Ayers sticks to that premise, those are the best scenes, especially the opening chase from the perspective of the dashboard camera. However, some feel out of place, such as a bedroom scene that makes one wonder who exactly is filming, though the follow-up scene is perfect, if only to show how charming Anna Kendrick can be. The two leads are excellent, with Gyllenhall & Pena making believable cops & partners and you feel a real friendship between the two. They are do a good job portraying their characters as good cops but daredevils to the point of being dangerous to themselves & others (if those were real body cameras, they may not be cops for very long). Despite it's flaws, an innovative & gritty drama and one of the better police films in the past few years.
