Alex r (ca) wrote: Very good made for TV film about the infamous disaster, I quite enjoyed this film, and felt that it was a well crafted drama that boasted some great performances from a cast of terrific talent. John Hurt, Bruce Greenwood are two of the most recognizable names and both are terrific in their performances. The film follows what happened after the disaster, the full inquiry and investigation that followed. Well acted, directed and told, I was pleasantly surprised by how well this TV movie was crafted. The Challenger Disaster is one of a select few made for TV films that actually manages to be very good, almost better than big budget Hollywood productions. The way that the film tackles the subject is very well done, and it's told in a way that's very interesting and entertaining. Like I said, the story is good, and is aided by some terrific performances. For a made for TV film, The Challenger Disaster is one of the best that I have seen, and for those interested in the subject, it's definitely a film that is worth seeing. With well constructed tension that goes deep into what happened during the inquiry. The film isn't perfect, but it's nonetheless an accomplished movie, especially for a film that was made for TV. If you're interested in the subject, by all mean, give this one a view, or if you simply want a well acted drama film with a very good story, then this is worth seeing. I really enjoyed the film, and though a bit short, manages to be constantly entertaining. The Challenger Disaster is a very good film, and definitely one of the finest made for TV films that I have seen.
Margarita S (ag) wrote: This movie captures the realism of the teenage years while incorporating mostly believable supernatural elements. Instead of focusing on why these kids obtained certain powers, it is an interesting character-study on the outcome of their having the powers. A nicely executed angle. The last quarter of the movie switches tone considerably and we end up with a final flourish of action-sequences and special effects that aren't really necessary.

rafael t (gb) wrote: i am from venezuela, so let me say tough this practice is very common down here but still, this movie is stereotyped, heavily influenced by politics, the language that they use is over the edge, i know that in caracas that's how they speak but they way overused it... i mean every police officer, military, taxi driver, and others is corrupt and criminal in this movie. off course you see drug traffic, sodomy, and all the cliches related to latin america. you have the cliches to kidnapping movies too: there is a sadist rapist guy, and there is a kind of good guy who does it for the needs. little bit of stockholm syndrome... Ruben blades doesn't even bother to try and imitate the venezuelan accent he just plays ruben blades rather than a character... The director desperately try to rush visuals with cheap tricks and poor edition... mia maestro its the higlight of this movie when it comes to acting, the kidnappers had some highlights when they show some tridimension. it's sad to me that they portrayed our people in this manner, and worst of all it's this movie did good in box office here so... just celebrates criminal lifestyle and denigrate the work of many good filmmakers that just can't get the money to shoot their projects... Me da mucha pena que personas de Venezuela se presten para retratar a nuestra gente de esta manera.
Mark A (nl) wrote: A quite entertaining costume drama filled with intrigue and debauchery. Integrity was highly prized and rarely found in the court of Louis XIV. Vatel (Gerard Depardieu) is in charge of providing lavish entertainment and banquets for the king's visit and discharges his duties without flaw. So much so, that his services are required at Versailles, but at a cost too dear for this man of humble origins. The cast is superb (Thurman and Roth bear special mention), the scenery is extravagent, and the story has enough twists and turns to keep the viewer engaged for its near two hour length. The costuming and sets alone are worth the price of admission. At a time when a king's displeasure was paid for with one's life, and honor often took a back seat to expediency, a man like Vatel invited envy as well as admiration. And in rare instances the affections of a lady.
Carolyn G (kr) wrote: Definitely a 5-star flick! Illeana Douglas is simply adorable as the Carole King-esque Edna Buxton/Denise Waverly. The rest of the ensemble cast is fantastic, with each putting across the tortured artist/songwriter/producer roles they were given. I own the soundtrack and have never gotten sick of it, nor do I tire of watching this move. More people absolutely need to see it and I dare them not to love it!

Richard S (de) wrote: "I Live in Fear"'s scope was much different than I expected. Based on the description, I anticipated that it would take place in South America and would focus on isolation from Japan. How wrong I was. Not only is it in Japan, it's very intimate. Almost claustrophobic. I'm to a point where I've begun to tire of Mifune's often broad acting style, but all things considered, it works well for this character. This is a strong effort and one I'd like to revisit one day. We'll see how the proper expectations change my opinion.

So this movie is actually one of the worse oldys movie I ever saw... ??
