Carl N (ru) wrote: More Japanese ultra-violent sci-fi on display in here. This time in the form of the vengeful android Samurai Princess. As the sole survivor of a group of young women who are raped and murdered. A crazy scientist turns her into an evil android using the butchered body parts of her friends. She sets off in to the forest to seek revenge on those responsible for her friend's deaths. This is very much a live action anime, from costumes right down to the sound FX. The comic aspect of the film plays through in most scenes. Clearly the whole film has its tongue placed firmly in cheek. The plot can get a little bit hard to follow, but to be honest most the time the screen is filled with flying Body parts and geysers of blood. So it doesn't take too much concentration. Though not as good as some of the recent Asian gore films, it's still entertaining and gore hounds will not be disappointed with the amount of blood and guts on display. Oh and look out for the breast grenades.

Ken S (ag) wrote: Garner and Lemmon work really well together in this odd couple road movie. Sure, the premise is kind of ridiculous and a tad hard to believe, but it is done so well that you kind of just go with it. I like that it took equal stabs at Democrats and Republicans. The jokes are well done, and the casting couldn't be better.

JB R (us) wrote: The grindhouse Japanese martial arts movie that put Toei Studios and Sonny Chiba on the map as international stars. The film received an X rating strictly for violence in the US. The film has no pretense to being anything more than non-stop ass-kicking and Chiba delivers. His screen presence is so incredible that he lifts the film above its other low-budget counterparts from the time. The film has deservedly remained a cult item and continues to be exciting to watch over and over again.

Michael L (kr) wrote: This movie was undeniably hilarious. Beatty and Hoffman are a classic comic duo. The movie basically consists of 2 parts. The first part focuses on the characters and their budding relationship as they attempt to become the next Simon and Garfunkle. They are so passionate and serious, and they honestly believe that they're talented; but, the content and the delivery of the songs are idiotic and hysterical. The second part sees the duo take their act overseas where they get caught up in espionage and spy games. It is the second part that seems to offput most critics. However, the hijinks that ensues is silly and side-splitting. "Telling the truth is serious business:" The "critics" got this one completely wrong.

Robert W (it) wrote: This movie is great! Great acting, great dialouge, great action. Some of twists are improbably contrived but what the hey? It's a comedy! One of the great Wilder films.

Matt G (mx) wrote: The second Nicholas Ray film I've seen, and I found it far more effective and less stereotypical than Bigger than Life. Humphrey Bogart's character has an ugly but fascinating psychology; his ego fuels his violent streak, and, once provoked, his temper can be uncontrollable. I felt the film constantly asking, scene after scene: "What is this man capable of?" In this sense, it's the predecessor to (God I'm obsessed with it) Breaking Bad. Both stories create suffocating tension by hinting at the aggression behind the character in focus. Do we trust them? Do they deserve to be punished for having flaws? Do they deserve to be loved despite them? Gloria Grahame provides a nice lens for us to see this character in a different light. And, in one of the most emotionally honest scenes in a noir I've ever seen, the agent of Bogart's character says to his girlfriend: "Years ago, I tried to make him go and see a psychiatrist. I thought he'd kill me! Always violent. Well it's as much a part of him as the color of his eyes, the shape of his head. He's Dix Steele. And if you want him, you've gotta take it all, the good with the bad. I've taken it for 20 years and I'd do it again."

Everything is relatively predictable with the happy ending desired by many who go to this type of film.Grade = 4/10
