(ag) wrote: So this is one of those movies where you bite and choke through the first ten minutes, and you cant muster up a single thought. and its just like, "Really? this was created by.. humans?" And Brittany Daniel.... holy hell, what happened to your days of turning in amazing performances in countless hollywood blockbusters like Joe Dirt and Club Dread? shame, shame. And Dash Mihok went from being the next Punisher to starring in straight-to-comedy central puke-fest in like, less than two years.
(ag) wrote: House of 9 wasn't definitely one of my favorite horror movies of all time. First things first - the plotline totally sucked. I was expecting something really wicked, gory, saw style shit. And all i got was a fuckin' huge (and awesome) house with nine strangers that go crazy and just attack each other like civisim never existed. Such a bunch of animals ! And what the fuck was wrong with that french dude ? Well, passing on to the next item on the list. What the hell do House of 9 has to do with Saw ? Nothing ! Come on, people, enough of stupid comparisons. First of all, because Saw is a whole lot better. It has better acting a better plotline, and a better soundtrack. And even the special effects are better, deaths seem more realistic anyways.House of 9 compared to Saw is like comparing Metallica to Mika: you see ? Nothing to do with each other ! Anyway, moving on. The soundtrack to the movie was terrible, and the acting was awful. Overall, the movie was terribly boring, and the ending didn't had much to it. Wouldn't advise it, unless you're the type of person who likes to see a movie just to say bad stuff about it.
(jp) wrote: A very subtle, almost completely silent film about a young gay man's sexual discovery in modern day Lisbon. The at times disturbing film depicts random sexual encounters and neurotic fetishism, but transcends cheap pornography and manages to deliver some thought provoking scenes. "O Fantasma" might be accused of demonizing male homosexuality, but somehow I don't think that was the point here, but rather something much more multifaceted.
(ag) wrote: For the most part I don't really like this film but there are some certain things I like. It kind of satirizes but also pays homages to 80's and 90's saturday mourning cartoons as well as some funny jokes and enjoyable moments. Yet those don't make up for it's number of problems like a bleak story, done to death morals, and even some throw away characters.

(ag) wrote: Decent continuation of the Aladdin series, but honestly drags at certain points. The story isn't nearly as strong as the first film. Iago is a decent character, and pretty funny, but he just gets annoying after awhile because the film centers on him.
(es) wrote: One of my favorite Brian DePalma films is often wrongly maligned as a terrible rehash of his old material, but to me it seems utterly clear that DePalma was playing to his fans and film buffs with this dark comic satire. The story is a gonzo tale of baby snatching, multiple personalities, love triangles and dark scientific experiments. John Lithgow gives a wonderfully campy, over-the-top performance, which includes him playing multiple roles and multiple personalities, which I'd have difficultly seeing any other actor pull off so well. Frances Sternhagen is the only other actor who really plays for camp in the film and doesn't do it straight. DePalma also directs the film with wild abandon, creating a surreal atmosphere where dreams mesh with reality, filling the screen with crazy cuts, zooms, wide angle lenses, long tracking shots, slow motion and dutch angles more than you've seen in one film outside of the 1970s. DePalma litters "Raising Cain" with in-joke references to his previous film that will certainly go over the heads of mainstream audiences and critics. He borrows from and plays with elements from "Sisters," "Dressed to Kill," "Carrie," "The Untouchables" and "Scarface," not to mention multiple Hitchcock films and other thrillers. He also fills the cast with a number of his stock company of actors. Sadly Denis Franz is missing. It's a film that's a real treat for DePalma fans and film buffs, but for everyone else it will come across as an utterly ridiculous, nonsensical thriller.
