The documentary is not very strong as a film. Brigitte Berman makes some artistic choices that do not help the energy of the film, but her topic is so interesting that it does not really matter.

The actual transition between Jekyll and Hyde that is meant to kill Lanyon was absolutely disappointing. Not to mention Hyde wasn't horrifying at all, just looking like gay. And most of the movie surrounded the court case and he tore up the envelope. Utterly disappointed

Chris H (fr) wrote: In Donkey Skin, there are the usual Demy touches, including a Michel Legrand score and the ubiquitous Catherine Deneuve, and visually the movie is stunning. Ostensibly a fairy tale, which begins as "once upon a time..." but descends into a pell mell of plot lines, some of which go nowhere, others of which make uncomfortable viewing, particularly the potentially incestuous relationship between father and daughter. View at your own risk but not a fairy tale to show the kids.
Brad S (jp) wrote: My first time watching this film, and I absolutely loved it. The film was more powerful than I expected, and was a departure from the Chaplin's usual comedies. "Limelight" is also a drama, and a moving story. Chaplin is great in this, and controlled all aspects, he was: director, producer, writer, star, and composer. Chaplin actually won an Oscar for the score, 20 years after the original release of the film. A real highlight of the film was seeing Chaplin and Buster Keaton share the screen for a brief comedy bit, such a great moment. This film is highly recommended!

Jerome K (fr) wrote: Another classic film I recently saw for the first time. It was ok, I guess. Another forbidden romance where passion is fueled by dance, although I can't really fault this since it was one of the originals.
Braden W (jp) wrote: A bit boring, as most of the villains are generic along with a henchman with a lack of intimidation. At least Steven Berkoff as General Orlov was fun to watch.
David J (nl) wrote: Another great film by Bigelow, and Jessica Chastain vaults herself into the top tier of actresses. The final 30 minutes is some of the most suspenseful stuff around, but the leadup to the climax can be difficult to follow.
Jamie J (fr) wrote: Did a good job of slowly ratcheting up the tension using the general uncomfortableness of its main protagonist in this situation. I found the ending to be a little predictable for the most part, but all in all I say the positives definitely out weigh the negatives. Definitely recommend this one.
