Chris H (nl) wrote: This was great. Through a mixture of being fed up of being shunned and hated by society simply due to them being red heads (more the boy's motive) and a severe boredom with your life and job (more Cassel's character's motive) two guys snap and go on a weird and disturbing rampage. Despite these motivations, I still felt their switch from normal people to killers and terrorisers was a bit unjustified and that the script was missing a vital middle section component to show how they rationalised becoming criminals.I seriously doubt red heads are this hated in France (though it's possible there is more dislike towards them there than in the UK as I think the red haired gene is of Anglo-Saxon and thus UK origin, so they might despise it partly because it links to the English, Scottish, etc.). I loved the whole standing up for yourself after being disrespected and hated by everyone though. Barthelemy was really good here, and Cassel is just great in everything. As usual he was really intimidating here and in control of every conversion and encounter he had with anyone. It baffles me why those American girls were all over hairy old man Cassel, and I love the fact that they made Remy gay (or at least partly gay) as it added more depth to his character, and made him a further reject from society, if anyone had known, since being red haired and gay are two things that are both heavily prejudiced against. It was a very short film. It might have been served better by a slight lengthening to accommodate for more anti-societal narrative; as I said to show how they made such a radical decision. Considering it was about red heads being hated upon (and this being worse than other racial hate because they have no country or concentration of people to draw support from) it needed more dialogue concerning such and their plans to overcome that - instead it was just a rampage of nasty actions, a vague plan to go to Ireland because Remy suspected there were more red heads there, and then it ended.I still loved it though, and I'm glad I own it.

Keith M (mx) wrote: What I would class as a traditional old style movie. There are some very funny lines. There's nothing amazing in this film but has it's little moments of shine

Rodney E (ru) wrote: Eric Roberts is a total stooge in this. This is one where I have heard many people cite this as a favorite and subsequently one that I don't feel the same about but don't think that it sucks..

Bill T (kr) wrote: It only took me 47 Years but I finally got around to seeing this classic movie. It certainly lives up to its reputation, the movie is absolutely beautiful. Vivian Leigh and (maybe to a lesser extent) Clark Gable are magnificent in their roles. The story is grand and certainly well worth the 4 hour viewing time. The big thing about this though that really wowed me what the absolutely lush cinematography in every shot. There is rarely a shot in this that didn't made me go "Oooooh!" Many not the best movie I've ever seen but certainly in the top five for sure.

Robert H (it) wrote: Kudos to Alexia Rasmussen and Alexa Havins for putting forth some really convincing performances and essentially carrying this film. Outside of some really shocking and gory moments and a few bizarre moments, they are all I can appreciate about the film. The sound on the film was not engaging including a score that just didn't fit with the film. There was some good use of surrounds though but nothing special in this day and age. Essentially, this film fails mainly due to pacing. At 2 hours in length, it's a good 45 minutes too long. There are plenty of smart pieces in the film and more than one twist but they take sooooo long to get to that you've likely already decided to leave the theatre or turn off the movie. Trust me, I came close.

Paul P (kr) wrote: Another flick which tries to mix humour and more serious drama together but doesn't quite hit the mark. A real shame as this could have been so much more. Fortunately the cast sre superb and the laughs are good and is the drama, it just didn't gel together for me. Walken had the best role and was really good selling the conflict inside him. There is plenty to recommend watching this film, just don't expect a masterpiece....

Paul D (nl) wrote: An epic of disproportion. There's a low-key Grand Prix championship plot against a long drawn out series of love triangles. It's way to long for such mundane themes despite some very good racing scenes.
