Matthew O (mx) wrote: 'American Teen' follows the lives of five teenagers a jock, a popular girl, a heartthrob, an artsy girl and a geek in one small town in Indiana through their senior year of high school, all real. The film is not a hard driven account of teen life in America, the most dramatic scenes involve the death of one of the teens sisters, general dull falling outs between friends, and pressure of one teenager to do well in his local basketball team, also pressure in the boy to get a college sponsorship.Out of all the Teenagers Hannah is the real standout as the girl who wants to move to Hollywood and make it big. A girl out of place in the drama of college boys and basketball, she is the light at the end of the tunnel, and arguably the one teen you care about. This is all good but with rumours of a number of staged moments of the film the whole original idea can be lost. Director Nanette Burstein plays out alot of the scenes as scripted film drama rather than more off the cuff realistic drama.
Paul D (fr) wrote: Enjoyable comedy despite not being high on laughs, parodying the film business itself. There's plenty of recognisable names on show.
MF J (gb) wrote: Pretty much the perfect way to illustrate this story was through a musical. Well it's done & well done. Madonna finds here her best acting gig ever, the songs are good, the sets beautiful & the epic scale of the ensemble makes this film a good entertainment.
Bill B (fr) wrote: So we had to finish our watching of the series, and this is even more over the top and ridiculous than the last. It's a fun watch, re-using more of the footage of the previous films to pad out the story and running time, but there's a wacky chase at the end that has to be seen to be believed.Fun stuff, worth a rental for those adventurous enough to appreciate it.
Richmond C (kr) wrote: This is one of the best looking movies I've seen. Almost every single shot is perfectly framed and composed like a beautiful painting. It's worth watching just for the use of colors alone. If you like interesting (not just loud and flashy, but INTERESTING) visuals, then you will find this movie rewarding.
aimee a (kr) wrote: What a great italian black comedy! At times it had small doses of slapstick, but it doesn't go towards the direction of a Marx Brothers or Harold & Lloyd film. Ferdinando Cefal (Marcello Mastroianni) is tired of his wife Rosalia (Daniela Rocca) and his marriage. Frankly, he doesn't love her anymore because he is absolutely enamoured with the adolescent Angela (Stefania Sandrelli). In the small town he lives in, divorce is prohibited and not allowed, but there is an unconventional law that makes it legal to kill a cheating spouse if there is evidence of them committing adultery. In his desperation to get rid of her, he starts plotting her murder himself but decides the jail time isn't worth it so he shift methods and decides to buy her a sexy black dress in order to lure and seduce other men. Just like in most dark comedies, there are inevitable twists through out. There are also some rich cultural references and taboos regarding sex and marriage in Italy at the time including a scene of a screening of La Dolce Vita which caused much controversy. I've only seen a dramatic Mastroianni in Fellini's films, but here he shows that he also had comedic talent with no gags or clumsy falls needed. Take the time to see this if you want something entertaining and some good laughs.
