RJohn X (es) wrote: lets just get two things straight - Fox Harris is amazing in this movie and for a toss off ALIEN ripoff, this thing looks great. First Fox Harris (from Repo Man), his hacking, chain smoking curling doctor is the key to the movie's plot. He rattles off the best lines with the determination and seriousness that the movie does not deserve. He is a joy to watch. Second, for the no budget movie the filmmakers were incredibly inventive, shooting through milk crates and using egg containers to line the set walls. The effect is dark and claustrophobic. Brilliant. The mutant itself has some true moments of nasty, but is mostly a laughable rubbery mess - especially the scene in the desert. the best part of the movie, aside from the chaos of the opening space battle (just what is going on there?) is the fact that the movie has Vint remember things he never saw - like the girls in the decontamination shower. It is that sort of flashback attention to detail that make the movie incredibly special.
Tony P (it) wrote: It takes all kinds of critters to watch Farmer Vincent's fritters is how I would describe this dark comedy horror from 1980 that has developed a cult following apparently. It is basically the usual theme around this time of a roadside motel (Psycho), and chainsaws (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as farmer Vincent and his younger sister Ida kill innocent victims to form the secret recipe for Farmer Vincent's Fritters! The first act of the film is actually quite watchable but as the film moves into its final act it descends into a perfect cure for insomnia if you are tired! As I write this short review I keep deducting a star from its rating so I better leave it here. Just to say I won't be revisiting.

Galen A (ru) wrote: A well shot, tense, and elaborate thriller that has a completely ridiculous (but still creepy) ending. This would have been a 5 star film if it weren't for that ending which might have been shocking at the time but came off as corny to me. Reminds me of Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt which was another great classic thriller with a weak ending. Still worth a watch though.
