Old Dogs

Charlie and Dan have been best friends and business partners for thirty years; their Manhattan public relations firm is on the verge of a huge business deal with a Japanese company. With two weeks to sew up the contract, Dan gets a surprise: a woman he married on a drunken impulse nearly nine years before (annulled the next day) shows up to tell him he's the father of her twins, now seven, and she'll be in jail for 14 days for a political protest. Dan volunteers to keep the tykes, although he's up tight and clueless. With Charlie's help is there any way they can be dad and uncle, meet the kids' expectations, and still land the account?

Elokuvasta puuttuu se mik teki Brggen Red Chapelista niin hienon: sydn.

Some moments genuinely scared me, others fall flat. I liked the tank they drove in this. As a fan of Romero I had to see it, and I don't regret it...he really brought the series back, even if it isn't as mind shatteringly awesome as Night and Dawn.

Cheryl S (us) wrote: very good movie. Funny and real. Blanca's friends aren't very good actors, but their roles are kind of disposable, so it doesn't really matter. America Ferrera does well and the Grandmother does excellent. The story rounds out well and the plotline is tight. Explores less-common ground than in most films, and for that I give it props.

Cynthia H (it) wrote: This is a really good "old" movie! I had never seen it until a couple days ago. Perfect for holiday, or any day if you have time to lay in front of the television all day!

Directed by the man behind the original Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers no less Paul Verhoven. our story follows Nomi (portrayed with some "special skill" by Elizabeth Berkeley in her first and last major film role after Saved by the Bell shut its school doors forever. Nomi fresh into Vegas in hopes of starting a new life while constantly getting exploited, undermined, and lied to on her way to the top of the burlesque entertainment ladder. With co-performances from Kyle McLaughlin, Gina Gershon, and Robert Davi to shortlist everyone. Berkeley chews up the scenery do damn much its next to impossible to take her seriously, especially her "dancing" skills and her sex scene in a pool where she convulses and flops around like an epileptic fish. Upon release Showgirls such poor reviews that Paul Verhoven issued an apology for it being ( this being funny since he declared before release that this movie was destined to be the next Citizen Kane). On the other hand though Showgirls has developed a major cult following selling so many copies its in the top 20 highest video sales even to this day. I would suggest everyone view this film and see what resulted from this super guilty pleasure.

Ben F (it) wrote: "Rising Sun" contains a story that could have gone either way. If it was done correctly, at best we could have had a mildly pleasing mystery. If done the wrong way, which it was, the audience would end up with a mostly silly film that reflects/conveys nothing important, and leaves you completely speechless, and not in the good way. There are elements in this film that if worked on, could have made this movie solid. But with some very bland performances, and sup-comical dialogue, this movie pretty much falls flat on its face. Two detectives are assigned to uncover a murder in the Japanese crime world. One, is a slick, young no-it-all who is trying to learn the ropes, and the other is an expert on Japanese culture. The expert has to teach the hothead how to behave in his new environment, while they both simultaneously try to stop their investigation from being intervened by people trying to kill them. It's a potentially engaging story, but the film is plagued with too much ridiculousness for you to appreciate it. Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery give basic performances. The acting ends up being more bad than good, mainly because of the corny one-liners that are delivered throughout the movie's duration. If they had a better script to work with, than maybe this movie would have been a little bit better. It seems as if both actors struggle with their deliveries throughout the movie, mainly because of the poor lines that they were given. The fight scenes are entertaining but too few and far between for you to enjoy yourself. When they occur, they stay on the screen for a brief period of time, and then return to the same boring repetitive dialogue that you were dreading fifteen minutes earlier. When all is said and done, "Rising Sun" doesn't meet any of the requirements it sets out to accomplish. It wasn't a compete mess, but it certainly doesn't have many positive aspects to it whatsoever. With a premise that certainly had potential, this movie ends up being one to skip over.
