Not as compelling as The lives of Others or as funny as Goodbye Lenin, a little disappointing. The tale of the air steelers or the tale of the Official visit are all right, but you get the feeling of flipping through somebody else's photo album and memories and not ever really getting pulled in. Congrats to set directors and art directors though for recreating realistically the feeling of the era, but in the same style I recommend the Phantom of Belgrade. A pseudo documentary about this guy that drove a stolen Porsche through the streets of Belgrade,Yougoslavia, becoming a symbol of freedom in that repressive state and drew crowds of up to 10 000 people at night to see him ridicule the local police in 1979.

Hunter may have lived his life in a way that was hard for a great many to grasp and thought of as destructive - but Hunter lived each moment of his life to the fullest and took guff from no swine! Freak Power!

Paul D (it) wrote: A poor adaptation of a mediocre novel. This movie really has nothing to offer anyone except an unintentionally hilarious bad special effect shot of a guy falling naked out of a window, penis flapping in the breeze.
Matt H (fr) wrote: This was pretty hilarious. I don't think it was meant to be a comedy, though. Everything was so predictable; it pretty much follows the formula of the serious 50's and early 60's dysfunctional family dramas without really bothering to make the characters or their actions particularly believable. But all that aside, I don't think you can even make a serious movie about a character named Berry-Berry. I mean seriously, what disturbed people would name their son that? It sounds like a chewing gum flavor. I don't know how the actors could keep a straight face saying that name. Very dramatic moments were pretty much ruined by people shouting the name "Berry-Berry!!" This is a lesson to serious realistic playwrights everywhere.
