Tracy F (ag) wrote: Decent movie but choppy in parts. The story was true and about one woman's determination as a peacekeeper in Bosnia attempting to expose human trafficking.

Kyle G (jp) wrote: The only reason it isnt one star is that I enjoyed one of the one-liners.

Thomas P (kr) wrote: I don't see brilliance here, but I do see earnestness tho, which is still not strong enuff to overcome the films flaws.Nice first effort for the young Kasdan, but the gushing reviews here seem as if they sucked helium during the movie or something - okay first effort, no big deal overall.

Cameron H (de) wrote: I did not expect to rank my first kung fu B-movie highly for durability, but when one looks past the 1970s melodramatic aesthetic, Five Venoms has stood the test of time. This is most apparent in the storyline, starting simply as a challenge for a young lad to defeat the five students of the Poison Clan. What unfolds is a non-intellectual, but nevertheless engaging series of politically corrupted actions that lead the good students to suffering and the bad ones to great power and wealth. The smartest of the film's fans, among filmmakers, were able to extract the substance of Five Venoms, as opposed to merely the style. I invested my every emotion in the various trial scenes; though each scene had a strong sense of familiarity, never did I cross into cynicism. I never felt like I would. Five Venoms played it seriously enough that it fooled me into thinking it was profound. I know it wasn't, but that's the trick of great cinema. On top of that, the action was superb. When the film takes the time to differentiate The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard, and The Toad, you had better hope that the action takes advantage of these differences. Holy shit, it does. The actors are great too! I expected to be laughing at how over-the-top they were, but no, I was listening intentively to what they were saying (in the trademark over-the-top manner). Okay, certain elements do not stand the test of time, like the initial plot of finding treasure and ensuring it falls into the right hands. Motives of each character become rather blurry in the final half hour, and our only hope is that the fight ends the confusion and we can stop asking questions in our heads. Also, sweet suspension of disbelief! Our hero has had three years of masterful martial arts training, yet cannot match to anyone, not even a non-Poison Clan member, in a fight. AND YET, after meeting with one student for a day, he becomes a master at a particular technique and saves the day. I hate myself for even mentioning that. Why must I kill the fun? This is good. Don't let my critical side fool you.
