Yousif V (ru) wrote: I had no idea Melanie Griffith was this bad of an actress - she single-handedly destroys the possibility of intrigue or thrill out of this sad excuse for a WWII film.
Bob W (ru) wrote: Turns out to be a waste of a very interesting cast that includes Raquel Welch, Burt Reynolds, Yul Brunner, Jack Weston, and a very young Tom Skerritt. The (lack of) plot resolution involves a bunch of convenient coincidences and "accidental" police work. In a way this presages the way that TV would handle cop shows starting in the 80's, but here the undeveloped characters, small talk dialogue and incomplete storylines just leaves you unsettled.

Elia Kazan's deeply personal and epic tale of struggle, heartbreak, and dreams is an engrossing, altogether unique depiction of the immigrant's journey. At the same time it can be difficult to watch and is sometimes crudely constructed and acted. Its deficiencies are swamped though by its virtues, not the least of which is Haskell Wexler's amazing black-and-white photography.

John B (ca) wrote: Definitely an exciting and gritty story about the lives of Marines and the battle situations they encounter and how it's not always a happy ending. Makes me appreciate what they do for us and how they serve our country, more respect is needed for our veterans.
Daniel C (gb) wrote: Cute and funny at times. The themes it puts forward, though, are obnoxious.
