This prequel to the movie Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame has once again fulfilled the taste buds of movie goers especially hard core action fans. The combination of CG and martial arts plus renowned actors is worth every movie ticket being bought.

It's positively hysterical from beginning to end, featuring stand-out performances from Steve Coogan and Katherine Keener. How can you not laugh at a film with a random musical number called 'Rock Me, Sexy Jesus,' a horrendously optimistic failed actor turned failed drama teacher, and a script that isn't afraid to bite the hand that feeds it by mocking its shooting location? Watch it, laugh heartily, and enjoy.

Kyle F (kr) wrote: Peppermint candy is a very powerful and moving film. It is shown in reverse; that is, a nonlinear timeline of events that moves from essentially the end of the story to the beginning. I feel this is quite a genius move on the part of the director, as we get to know the main character in reverse, at first judging his flaws and feeling no sympathy for him, but ultimately finding where these flaws came from. The editing and direction of the film were nothing spectacular, but they work quite well. The film was broken into several segments of one man's life (Yeong-ho Kim), and through these segments we are able to glimpse several crucial life events which eventually shape his character. While overall this made the film a little confusing, it also makes you want to go back and watch it again to pick up on more details. The acting, for the most part, was quite good. The lead actor did a fantastic job, driving in his emotions so well that it almost made you uncomfortable at times. The score was nothing out of the ordinary, but it shone through in certain scenes. For the most part it aided the picture and helped move things along without detracting from the film as a whole.Overall, not quite what I expected out of this movie but it ended up being quite complex and well-made. From the beginning I was curious to see how this man had been driven to such extreme depression and I also quickly learned that I did not like his character values. He appeared corrupt, uncaring and almost wicked at times, which left me with little sympathy. However, ultimately the film addresses these flaws and we find out that perhaps outside life circumstances drove him to be the way he was to be.
