Passed the Door of Darkness
Passed the Door of Darkness: Two young children dead, floating face down in their family's bathtub. Their mother, shot in the back of the head, lies next to the tub in a pool of her own blood. On the floor slumped against a blood covered wall is her husband, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. For rookie Homicide Detective Chris Malloy this grisly scene is more than he expected to see in his first week of working the graveyard shift. For his partner, grizzled yet poetic Detective Murphy MacCasey, this is but one tragedy among countless in his fifteen years in homicide. They haven't seen anything yet.

This movie is based on a true story about, a man named Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) who is serving in WW2, but he doesn't want to touch a weapon. So he goes on to the battlefield against the Japanese with no gun. His intention is to save peoples lives. Not since Saving Private Ryan have we got a war film that is so emotionally captivating. From the opening scene, I knew that this movie was going to have something special, and it did. I was floored by Hacksaw Ridge. There was not a single thing wrong with it. Everyone who played in it did a remarkable. Mel Gibson is back at it again with another good movie. This is proof that Gibson still has it. The war scenes were well choreographed, and violent. I hate it when people say "Its too gory". It's WW2, what else would you expect? What got me was watching this character achieving what he intended to do. It almost brought me to tears. At one point, I thought that I was going to cry because the movie was that good.Over all, this film was remarkable. It is sure to be a classic in the future. 5/5 stars

(au) wrote: Perhaps the greatest performance by main star Michael Douglas as a made redundant defence worker who has a mental breakdown.Douglas plays De Fens who one day cracks under the stress of an LA traffic jam.A succession of situations envelops with ever more elaborate scenes of violence and death.De Fens begins the film as a bloke in his late thirties, wearing a shirt and tie. Hardly your everyday murderer. In scenes that resemble the Death Wish films Douglas takes out his frustration at his failed marriage and financial situation at seemingly random people. All he wants to do is get home! The LA traffic gridlock reminded me of my home city. I could empathise with some of De Fens frustrations especially when trying to get home via publuc transport after a days work. However some of his actions are extreme to say the least.I have not visited this film for many years. It is one of those films that appears under the radar as such. It was a part of my old VHS collection it's that old!Directed by Joel Schumacher who is probably better known for a couple of non spectacular Batman films in the 1990s.The film also stars Robert Duvall as an LA cop with an interesting last day before his retirement and an even more interesting wife!
