Kyle G (gb) wrote: An amazing film in the vein of "Cidade de Deus" in that it takes place in Rio de Janeiro, has a documentary feel to it, and is crisp and fast-paced. While "Cidade" is a better film due to its untamed, breathtaking energy, this film still had me interested in the fates of the characters and rendered me impressed by the intelligent and likely accurate view of the exorbitant amount of corruption in the city's government.

Doug K (ca) wrote: Uniquely stylised and full of deep knowledge and insight into the fascinating characters, City of God does a wonderful job of showing, not telling. Creating genuine characters and concern for them as well as believing you would meet every single one of these vivid characters.

Gavin P (gb) wrote: Unique! It's farcical from the start and almost plays like a bunch of sketches thrown together. Sure, there's the typical Woody Allen narration, but not too much and not all the jokes/one-liners work, but there's enough laughs throughout. it's basically a prototype 'Naked Gun' - and I think I heard the Austin Powers theme 30 years early! Fast (80min) & fun oddball comedy.

Melanie F (ag) wrote: I liked the little tune it played throughout. Quite catchy.

Jay A (ag) wrote: Quite simply the best that Godzilla has ever bee and probably will ever be. Yes, it's pretty campy by today's standards, but this was the innovation by which we still compare other monster genre movies, and it's still that way for a reason.

Irvin C (kr) wrote: This is one of James Cagney's most iconic roles with one of his most well-known catchphrases ("Top of the world, Ma!") and after seeing it, you'll completely understand why. It's fantastic. This is a film about murderous career criminal named Cody Jarrettt and the undercover police officer assigned to bring him down. Cody is a nasty piece of work but thanks James Cagney's outstanding performance, he makes him a really compelling and fully human creation. The film is also a really, really exciting crime thriller filled with heart-pounding moments thanks to Raoul Walsh's outstanding direction. One of the best crime films ever made and really earns its classic status.

Danny M (gb) wrote: Meh. It's not awful. There is moments in this film that made me laugh but overall the jokes are just lazy and predictable

Paul D (gb) wrote: It's a little slow with its perceived 'horror', but this film grows on you and eventually you can appreciate the cult value of this low-budget seasonal offering.
