(it) wrote: Morris from America is very enjoyable coming of age story with great performances. I really liked Markees Christmas in the title role. I was also particularly fond of Craig Robinson's performance as Morris' father. He shines in a much more dramatic role than he is usually in. They both work well together. The film has an enjoyable story. Throughout its hour and a half runtime, I was engaged in the story. Unfortunately, the film doesn't really do anything new to the formula. There are a couple of nice things, but nothing really unexpected. Overall, this isn't the best coming of age drama in the world. Still, it is an aggressively likable film with charming performances.

And how refreshing that the character of the grandmother is so richly developed -- minus the tiresome stereotypes of old people we're used to seeing.
