Serge L (us) wrote: This is a super-power film. Nanny McPhee is a witch with superpowers that could ensure worldwide peace but her assignment given to her is the raising of a group of kids living with a single mother on a farm. The brother of the mother is the villain, Clouseau-type. Emma (McPhee) looks like these stop-motion animated english characters, you know, which is rather funny. That was a good time with all acting well, good special effects and funny and sillyness spread all over. The flying pigs and car were over the top but, what the heck, super powers are so common nowaday. I think a "Nanny McPhee brings world peace" could be quite the hilarious film. She has the power. Superman, Captain America, etc. has got nothing on her.
Dave W (ag) wrote: When I first watched this, I was underwhelmed. I missed the visionary city scapes of Batman Begins, and the psychological cat and mouse of The Dark Knight. But what I didn't udnerstand then, is that what makes this movie work is in it's role in the trilogy. It shows the passage of time, and the wear and tear the life of a super hero would cause. Taking place 8 years after the second installment, The Dark Knight Rises pits batman against a physically superior seemingly intellectually equal villain called Baine. In addition to this story line, Cat Woman is featured and the portrayal of her character is done well. However, this last movie in the trillogy really made me appreciate Michael Caine's role as Alfred as a complex character, and perhaps the one person who understands Batman more than Batman himself. In terms of action, the scenes of destruction are massive but believable including a memorable scene on an airplane. Early on in the movie. Overal, this is a fitting end to a great super hero trilogy.
Thomas B (mx) wrote: possibly the worst script ever written and a plotline weaker than most of the cast's performance, this film sucks. the only reason it got made is cos michael jackson wrote it. the only redeeming feature is ving rhames and not even his performance could save this awful film. if you're gonna make a film which is supposed to make a statement, at least make a good movie. seriously awful, the purest stream of drivel i have ever come across. Defining Scene: Oh but there are so many to choose from! if i had to choose one scene from this film, it would have to be the piece of comedic genius when blaze confronts armstrong in the church. oh was that not meant to be funny? my mistake.

Zachary R (ca) wrote: This movie is a good sequel if not a little hard to understand. This film deals with Section 9 agents Batou and Togusa who investigate a series of murders where people are once again being hacked by an unknown hacker who seems to be out to set things right in the oddest of ways. While investigating this case Batou and Togusa learn the hard way of what is really and what is reality. That is basically what I can about this story, this story has a plot that is just about as mind bending as the Matrix which for better or worse is good and bad at the same time for people who hate figuring out puzzles. Other than that the film is entertaining with great characters, action, and once again music. It is worth a look. 8 out of 10.
Richard R (gb) wrote: Within about five minutes of this film I knew I wouldn't like it. It was quiet, not even remotely creepy and I couldn't even tell what was supposed to be going on throughout it. It was a pointless movie and barely recogniseable as any kind of horror or even family drama. Disappointed.

Sullivan was probably the first great and highly promoted boxing matches. Errol Flynn claimed that this was one of his favorite films and worked hard to develop his boxing skills. Flynn became a pretty capable boxer for this movie.
Antonius B (nl) wrote: If you're not a Barbara Stanwyck fan, you should skip this movie. It's a pretty silly story, the scenes in prison are far too comfortable, and there are a couple of cringe-inducing, racist scenes showing African-Americans frightened as if they were stupid children. If you are a Barbara Stanwyck fan, however, you will probably like this movie at least enough to watch it, and perhaps as a guilty pleasure. She simply has an amazing screen presence, and it's fascinating to see her in the role of a streetwise criminal. She has scenes ranging from 'tough girl' to one hopeful for love and a second chance, and she goes all out in her anger in one scene towards the end, with spittle flying and really letting loose. Much is made of the lesbian reference in the prison ("she likes to wrestle", indicating a butch looking woman smoking a cigar), but it's a passing thing and made me smile, as did the old madam reminiscing about the men coming to her "beauty parlor" for "manicures". It's all pretty tame for a pre-Code film. Of her fellow actors, DeWitt Jennings stands out in the role of the detective who consistently sees through Stanwyck, but she's the one to watch the film for.

Miriam G (nl) wrote: By far the best adaptation of Othello I've seen so far. It's rare that everything works in a movie, but every element of this movie comes together beautifully. It may also be the best silent film I've ever seen. I actually like where this movie starts better than in the original script, and I prefer the way the tension mounts more believably in this movie. This is a masterpiece.

Mark A (fr) wrote: Jessica Chastain, in her breakout feature film debut, as a young woman searching for her place in the world, is spectacular, as her character ages from 15 to 25. The story reminded me somewhat of the underground, soft-porn 1964 novel, Candy, by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg, which in turn was a parody of Voltaire's Candide, in that Jolene seemed to move from one scandalous relationship to another, always searching for who she is meant to be. And every man, and a couple of women, take advantage of her charms at every turn. The last relationship almost kills her, but once again she hits the road and reinvents herself. Terrific acting, great scenery, and some truly awful plot turns kept this viewer engaged and at times enraged. And through it all, Ms Chastain radiates pure innocent beauty and grace even in the face of horrendous circumstances.
