(mx) wrote: An introverted meter maid attempts to change his pathetic personal life by participating in an anti-anxiety drug study, but quickly runs into some psychotic side-effects. When the drug alters his perception of reality, his mind takes the cue to mean he's developed super powers, which he immediately applies to the streets as a self-styled hero. A dark comedy that's quite similar to Rainn Wilson's odd superhero send-up Super, it's often hopelessly lost in the deep, complicated middle ground between absurdist comedy and bleak, grizzled reality. Character actor and stand-up comic Michael Rapaport plays a good sympathetic lead, but his naive nature and good intentions only make the tribulations he endures that much more difficult for the viewing audience. It's a light, energetic first act that's backed by a tough, distressed greater story, and the frequent reminders that the protagonist is hallucinating steal most of the drama from its root concept. A troubling little package that can't quite settle its own private identity crisis.

(au) wrote: My expectations were very low when I sat down to watch this psuedo-biopic. But, by the time it was over...I had added a new title to my ever-growing, gigantic list of favorite films. I believe this is easily Banderas' greatest performance.

(br) wrote: Underrated comedy about senile folks. Would've given it four stars if it stuck to the comedy and ignored the cliched moral.
(nl) wrote: Well acted by all , good dialogue, fast paced , but one problem: its not realistic that they didnt go to the police while they were inside the bank , however if they did that, the twisted ending would have never happened ! Good movie though.

(gb) wrote: Jaws 2 was "good enough" but not like the first one. The best part of the film was Rob Scheider. The worse part was the pacing (such a borefest for the first 30-40 minutes). And it just didn't have that feeling the first movie had. The characters, other than Rob Sheider, were much weaker and less engaging than in the first movie. Adding all these things up, I rate it a 6/10 OR 3/5. I'm scared to watch Jaws 3 because my psychic powers are already warning me that I will probably be worse than Jaws 2.
(mx) wrote: Beautiful and surreal. Bit too short and open to interpritation to give a higher score but definatly worth checking out, and I can't wait to see how the full movie will turn out. All I can say is I already adore the setting and visual look of it all.
(kr) wrote: A film that basically advocates suicide for the benefit of your loved ones. I feel as if this movie wants us to admire it for being so bold in its second half. But was I the only one sitting there after the fade to black thinking; umm hang on, seriously? that just happened? He kills himself!? Sure it's a touchy topic in this modern PC age we live in, but c'mon!?! I thought these lovey-dovey inspiring movies were meant to show that that no matter how ugly, deprived, disabled or physically/mentally impaired we are... once you find the love of your life, you hold on to them, cherish each other & have your happily ever after? How the hell do they justify this film then? It was selfish, stupid & demeaning to other disabled people. Imagine if you were a young man/woman suffering the same ailment as Will in this movie - what the hell kinda message it is sending you? There's no hope, even if you do manage to find the perfect match. So just tell them to "flick the switch". Maybe I'm looking at this the whole wrong way, but seriously this movie pissed me off. Yes I'm also aware this is adapted from a novel - people keep telling me like that gives it some legitimate justice. Are you kidding me? Get out. The only positive I got out of this was seeing Clarke branch out from that stone-cold dragon role she'll forever be associated with. Oh & her natural hair!!
