(ru) wrote: A quick moving, very short gangster film from the 40s. Competent. I first I didn't like Tierney as Dillinger, but I appreciated his performance more as the film wore on. All the gang members are well played, but Anne Jeffreys as "The Lady in Red" is rather bland. The score by Dmitri Tiomkin fits both the pace, and manages to be more varied then one would expect in a short feature of this type. In the public domain, and available freely online.

I love it regardless, but honestly its the prototypical chick flick that spans two world wars: a woman falls in love with a pilot and they spend a passionate night together, he goes off to war and dies, she finds out she's pregnant and conspires to keep the baby without damning her reputation, her scheme backfires and the plot thickens. They meet years later... he's a pilot and she's conflicted over whether or not to disclose her secret... dum dum dum

Whichever it is, it is a very bad, bad movie. The movie is told in a mock documentary style that has become ever more popular over the years. In the case of europa report, the the time and place of each scene cuts back and forth every 2 or 3 minutes. Which is very annoying and unartistic. The movie is a clear ripoff of 2001 a space odyssey sans a much needed Hal to put both films out of their misery. You need only watch the first 30 minutes to learn the very thin plot: a manned mission is sent to Jupiter's mood europa to look for life, they find it, and it is hostile.
