(nl) wrote: Holy WTF was that? That's how it felt to watch this film. Still though a largely enjoyable story that sucks you in and keeps you keen to carry on watching to see how it all turns out. From the absurd to the darkly original humour can be felt from the first few moments. You just have this feeling that something is a little bit wrong and out of place from the get go. You've also got a bit of the wild west meets east genres, smashing together with interesting results. Just no stogie smoking hero to crown things off with a squinty eyes in the noon sun scene. Not that I'm complaining. Worth a watch because it is different and boy, the bullets do fly. Not in an Expendable way, but carefully balanced off with humour and plot changes. Politeness never seemed so strange in the face of violence. Keeping face seems to save your ass in the wild wild east. Vavoom.

(gb) wrote: It started out as another Friday night of looking for some mindless entertainment to fill the waning hours of the day. Having recently joined Blockbusters' "no more late fees" club I was anxiously browsing the New Releases shelves. I came across "Paranoia 1.0", starring Debra Unger and Jeremy Sisto. Always having liked Debra Unger's work - and steamingly sexy looks - and having liked Sisto in last years' creepshow "May" I was hoping for something as interesting. I was not disappointed. I've always had a taste for films that tap into the dark side of human nature. Most films that look into the "dark side" usually come in the form of some autobiography (i.e. The Aviator). Leading to a judgemental, easy to digest portrayal of someone else's darkness, instead of delving into the darkness within each of us. It was "Paranoia 1.0" that chose the harder-to-achieve approach of expressing the darkness we are all capable of. I won't get into the details of the story itself, as I would rather you see the story unfold within your own viewing. Aside from possibly ruining the film for you, I want others to see what they get from the film. The problem with film reviews is that they often reveal too much and serve so few. All I will say is that I enjoyed it. And don't forget to watch the special featurette. How they went about making the film was as fascinating as the film itself.

(ru) wrote: Good because Chris Pine was in it. Better than anyone else. It was too much of a cliffhanger. I wanted there to be a sequel.
