A "what-if" story well developed, the ending fell short... but it was ok

Andrew D (ag) wrote: As you would expect from a superhero film from the 80's, "Superman 2" is laughably cheesy in parts and incredibly outdated in many respects. The best thing about the movie is the music. The theme song alone is great but the score throughout the film is also very good. The film is very well shot by the two directors. The film also has a very good story. The idea of having a superhero losing their powers would not seem very inventive by today's standards but back then it was new. The acting all around is very good here as well. While some of the jokes seem out of place a lot of them are very funny as well. The negative things about the film are that it goes off to a very slow start. Also the Lex Luthor character played by Gene Hackman serves very little purpose to the overall plot and is really only there to crack jokes which is kind of sad. I also don't think the villains are fleshed out well enough. The visuals are very cheep looking as well. Overall "Superman 2" is a fairly enjoyable and above average film but has many cheesy elements that might not appeal to people looking for something darker.3/5
Jerry H (ru) wrote: If ever a film did not need a sequel it was FUNNY GIRL, but Columbia Pictures decided to do one and this is the result. Striesand tries but you can tell no ones heart is in it. A total waste of time. The only reason it gets two stars is because the film looks great and James Caan gives a good performance as Fannie's husband. Just see the original and skip the sequel. Directed by Herbert Ros and released in 1975. Rated PG.
Tim S (mx) wrote: Ok. Yeah, this one is bad, but it has some things going for it. For one, it has Ray Milland and Sam Elliott in it. Second, it has a sexy young Joan Van Ark wearing tight clothes and bikinis. Third, it has an animated frog at the end of the movie swallowing a person with a comic *gulp* sound (which is the reason to see the movie, in my opinion). So the movie's got a lot of comic value, as do most of American International's movies, but this one is slightly more enjoyable than the rest. Most are just unwatchable piles of crap. This one passes as watchable without being great.

James S (es) wrote: Beautifully filmed and honestly acted. An inspiring story of survival. Much better than every Moby Dick adaption ever made except of course the true, timeless, work of art that is the Ray Bradbury adaption of Moby Dick starring Gregory Peck and Richard Basehart. And don't forget Orson Wells as the Preacher. What a sermon!
