Lynn H (mx) wrote: Great performances. I looked up their bios because they were so good. Howver, I liked the first time they made love but thougnt the seccond time was unecessary. The book author wasn't happy with too much sex bordering on porn. It was overkill. The criticism that they cast non-lesbians might be valid esp. for the sex scenes but the 2 actresses had a chemistry that was very sensual and real. You would never see this in the US. Foreign movies have less hang-ups than American ones. The fact that this was done so movingly and not rough make it appealing. I liked the different angle and close-up cinematography shots of Adele. I liked her messy hair. Will tell my friends. I saw it on TV through Netflix. Saw it was a French film and I lived in Paris when I was 19 so love the French language and films.

Jocey D (nl) wrote: A bit too slow, quiet and introspective for my taste. Very little dialogue to provide insight into the main character's struggles and torturous existence. Josh Lucas plays a sympathetic role and James Cromwell is the perfect wise and crusty sailor. It is good to see however the sailboat regain its sleek beauty. The ending is quite disappointing and unsatisfying. He doesn't even take it out for a sail instead he walks off away from the sunset.

Alex r (de) wrote: Director Robert Lieberman crafts a torture porn revenge flick that has some sketchy but at times pretty decent performances. As far as the film is concerned, it's a decent low-budget horror outing that could have been so much better than what it turned out to be. There is so many ways that they could have made a powerful revenge horror film with these ingredients, however there's something not quite right with the way the film was executed. If the film's script could have been rewritten a bit, and its structure been refined, then you'd have a compelling and memorable horror yarn. What you have here is a film that doesn't take enough risks, while trying g to shock as much as it can. Considering the film's premise, you'd expect something exciting, thrilling and ultimately unforgettable. The Tortured in the end is just like every other Torture Porn horror film out there. Although the film's idea is very good and interesting, there's no real pay off in the end. Overall this is a decent and at times entertaining film, but it leaves a lot to be desired out of its plot. The film doesn't do anything different or refreshing in this genre of horror, and it's clear to see that this genre has run out of ideas. If you want a great revenge flick similar to this one, but that is not a horror film, watch Law Abiding Citizen. However in the end, The Tortured is a film that is just worth seeing once, and doesn't necessitate multiple viewings.

Tor M (kr) wrote: I saw this - trying to save a better Haneke film for a while longer - "Amour". I tend to enjoy his films. They are often as brilliant and smart as they are disturbing. The castle is a very weird piece, where the is a constant lack of meaning. It's based on a novel made by Franz Kafka, but he never finished it as I've figured. I read someplace that he died in the writing process. Anyhow, I believe the film is better after reading the novel. Names, houses, walks in snow, discussions. That's about it.I get the feeling of paranoia, it's definetly present. "K" is searching for a place called "The Castle", and it's not an easy place to enter. On his way we meet several people, but I never really care much for any of them. Too much dialogue for me going on for two hours. This is boring, and to complex or hidden for me. I don't get much, but I make up some ideas while watching it at least.I like the fast switches of turning black, the scene cuts, but that's about it. The leads Ulrich Mhe and Sussane Lothar does great, and well, the ending - I liked that, in a way.Incredibly lifeless, dark, boring, but still fascinating and a very original adaptation. Maybe it will grow on me, most of his films does, but so far I did not like it.3 out of 10 snow storms.

Steve W (de) wrote: This murder mystery western aboard a train starts off pretty promising, but as the reveal uncovers itself it gets confusing and chaotic by the film's end. The first half is suspenseful and twisty, the second half is your usual shoot em up western fare. Breakheart Pass is reasonable entertainment, I only watched it for Charles Bronson.

Twig T (nl) wrote: i like films with a very focused setting and atmosphere. what could be more focussed than a movie taking place entirely within a car. I'd say this is... psychologically gripping... even if your moral orientation doesnt quite align, it's worth a watch.
