Brandon W (mx) wrote: Temple Grandin is directed by Mick Jackson, and it stars Claire Dines in a biopic about the life of Temple Grandin from when she was first diagnosed with autism, to when she starts having a fascination with cattle ranches and starts researching them. I come across this in agriculture class where we have to do a movie worksheet on this and fill out the chronological event questions. When the class and I start to watch it, I got interested in this movie so fast that I actually just finished watching this in my house while also filling in the answers, and end up almost done with the questions because Temple Grandin was a very unexpected film that turn out to be an amazing made-for-TV movie from HBO. This is probably the best performance that I've seen from Claire Dines because she was very convincing when she was acting differently then what I usually see her in, and doesn't get annoying which is very hard for an actor to be acting autistic and not be irritating for some viewers. You not only learn about Temple Grandin, but also the other characters that are not in it much, and also aspects of farming cattle that I haven't heard about. The writing by Christopher Monger and William Merritt Johnson is well-written that created a lot of stories from Temple's life, and they are all interesting to watch. There are a lot of good humor in it that's never to the point of making fun of autism itself, and it's interesting to see how her mind works. Temple Grandin is an amazing film that I'm glad that I got interested enough to watch this in my house.

Michael W (it) wrote: Great movie, a favorite of mine. Shows what greatness you can find if you look beyond the surface of people! Holiday, a drag queen, is a loyal friend, and a kind person, with a huge heart! Ving Rhames did a great job in this movie, as did Alfre Woodward as an addict.

Timothy M (it) wrote: Thought this movie got a bad rap. Though it trails from accuracy, it is an entertainment feature, Christian Slater plays a good Charley Lucky and some of it is true. Though much of it is false.

Jonathan B (es) wrote: A low budget, cult, cyberpunk movie set in a post-apocalyptic world, that owes quite a bit to Terminator. In the movie, an ex-soldier turned scrap dealer happens across the remains of a robot which he takes home to his artist girlfriend. She incorporates the bits into a nightmarish sculpture inside her fortified apartment. Unknown to anyone, the remains are of a prototype military warrior droid which has the ability to draw energy from any available power source and regenerate itself from bits and bobs it finds lying around. Plugging itself into the electricity supply, the robot constructs a new body and then terrorises the woman, killing off a few of her neighbours along the way. Although formulaic and derivative, this is actually quite a well done movie, with a lot to recommend it. It has a certain style and feel giving it a slick quality that owes much to the director's background in music videos of the time. It manages to stay just on the right side of grisly to prevent to the horror elements from becoming gratuitously gory and the effects, including the psychopathic robot, stand up well. The small cast do a reasonably good job although I did find Stacey Travis as the artist Jill a little lacking in her ability to convey terror. John Lynch as 'Shades' I thought was particularly good, giving the film one of its genuinely funny scenes. There's also a few nice little cameos from the rock music world in the forms of Lemmy, Iggy Pop and Carl McCoy. Probably destined to see out its days on late night cable channels, Hardware, though a wee bit dated in presentation, is still a great deal better than many a big budget Hollywood sci-fi thriller and was clearly made by a team who had a passion and flair for story telling.

Heith P (es) wrote: The fact that the director is a pederass is a little more frightening than the actual movie. Maybe it's just the nostalgia but this is a decent horror film. It's more angled at a PG audience in my opinion.

Cameron E (de) wrote: While the storyline is controversial and intriguing and the actors' performances are very convincing, the movie just falls flat in so many ways.

Julio S (au) wrote: Not so much funny, but definitely interesting in its portrayal of unionized workers and their management in the late 50's. We still think to this day that unionized workers are bit on the slack side; and this movie does nothing to change our mind as workers strike because of a 'breach of contract' with management. Really, its just a reaction because it was proven a normal, unskilled worker with just days of experience proved he could do double/triple the work in half the time. And he wasn't even trying.Never seen Terry-Thomas before; notable to me since the Marvel Captain Britain villain James Jaspers is based off of him...hmmmmmmm
