Please Teach Me English

As shy, awkward and, frankly, nerdy as she is, 25 year old public official Na Young-ju has little hope of landing a boyfriend. But then a game of chance designates her as the member of her office staff who will take English courses—much to her horror. In the same class, she encounters show salesman Park Moon-su, who fancies himself a dashing ladies’ man. He’s studying English in part to communicate with his long-lost American sister, but mostly for the purpose of wielding exotic pick-up lines, and is soon deploying them at the less-than-impressed Cathy, the pretty Australian teaching the class. But while Park flirts with Cathy, it’s Young-ju who finds herself mooning after the handsome if self-absorbed fellow.

They are pretty minor compared to the whole movie, so still bearable for me. The actors and actresses act wonderfully. Sometimes I found it strangely funny... It was also not just about the gore. The gore is not the point of interest here, rather it is a part of everything. I like how he put this good guy among the bad guys and the reaction and respond to that is a little over the top, however is also understandable. I can imagine it in manga form, and that's probably why the conclusion is like that, it's in the culture. But it's ok that it is...so Japanese and manga-ish...cos it was indeed a Japanese movie :)

Mark H (ca) wrote: Very dry, though they did the best they could with the material that they decided to base a movie off of. Very much the same problem with "The Walk (2015)"--great acting and directing but stretching something that really shouldn't be two hours.

Christopher S (nl) wrote: 50s sci-fi B-movie rendered unintentionally hilarious by its relentless sexism. It's just as hokey as you'd expect, with its over the top performances, cheap special effects, and preposterous plot all part of the campy fun. A cult classic.
