Mark A (kr) wrote: A French thriller, starring one of my favorite actresses, Charlotte Gainsbourg, as Bendicte, the wife of Alain (Laurent Lucas), who has moved to a new town for his job. He is befriended by his boss, Richard (Andre Dussollier) along with Richard's wife, Alice (Charlotte Rampling). The friendship quickly becomes a nightmare scenario because of the mental instability of Alice. I had trouble connecting to this, as it tended to rely on what appears to be the supernatural for its logical structure. A lot of strange things happen that seem to have no relation to each other, except in the most superficial way and I just felt like the attempt to bring them all together lacked finesse. The tension depends on trying to figure out whether the events were actually happening as Alain experienced them, or were the product of a psychotic break or a lingering effect from an traffic accident he winds up having. All in all, more than a tad unsatisfying. I'm still not sure what the lemming was supposed to signify. Alain finds one in their kitchen sink drain early on and it shows up in several scenes after that, but it seemed not to serve any purpose other than to lend its name to the film!

Malekai Z (br) wrote: Okay, where to start?1) The sheer number of rape jokes in this movie is ASTOUNDING. A minor character literally goes through half of the movie thinking he was raped (not sure what the movie was going for with this one), while it turns out his friends are laughing behind his back because "It was all a prank!" (spoiler alert)2) Fart jokes everywhere. Same sound effect used every time.3) Silent montages, with a pathetic attempt at sincerity.4) Morena is stunning in every way. The fact that someone manages to mess up anything involving her is just... I can't even. This is one of those movies that isn't even the good kind of bad. It literally brought down the mood of a drunken party because of how awful it was.And then you get to watch the bloopers during the end credits, where there are (believe it or not) MORE rape jokes, with the actors giggling and Rosenbaum saying "CUT!" while in costume on camera, which is a sad reminder that effort was put towards this movie.

Simon W (it) wrote: Another one from my youth that doesn't quiet hold up. It's not a bad movie but it isn't anywhere near as much fun as I remember. The problem mostly is the tone. It's trying for both light and fun mixed with dark and serious and can never really find that balance. Not like say, My Cousin Vinnie which gets it right. That definately leaned closer to the light and fun side (Which is where this kind of movie is meant to live) but the threat was serious and real. All in all it's only okay with the con only just holding water - but with a nice satisfying finishing wink.
