Thomas V (ru) wrote: Michael Douglas is once again delivering a flawless performance in the title role of a man in his 60s who decided to live a frivolous lifestyle after he got afraid of having a medical exam to confirm a diagnosis. The direction from Brian Koppelman and David Levien who I never heard of before seems pretty great to me. They center the movie around the theme of chosing to live accompanied or alone (despite friend-like and family appearances), and they demonstrate the flaws of the ladder in a very convincing way. Even though the film mainly revolves around Ben Kalmen, the supporting roles are also delivering good performances, but ultimately it's Michael Douglas that carries Solitary Man and makes it an unexpectedly very touching movie. One of my Michael Douglas favorite since Wall Street and The Game. Definitely fresh.

Kevin G (mx) wrote: Poor version of Prick up your ears, albeit the other end of Islington. It's not sure what it is or what is it trying to say. Given that music is at the heart of the story there isn't enough of it to enjoy where as his fall into depression and death is dragged out for 30 mins of what is at first sad, then boring melodrama. I had to watch it so you don't have to. Johnny don't remember me please!
