Some of the acting feels as though it is delivered in the tone of "you should just be happy you're getting to see me on the screen again" - well I'm not. Lots & lots of over the top explosions. Stallone rounds up (and rounds out) a cast of retirees from the old-folks home and then explosions happen

Brosnan gives a good performance and the movie tugs at the heartstrings

Highly Recommended. A well-crafted and intelligent motion picture. A majestic score by Trevor Jones, with exquisitely cinematography by Peter Deming. The production design by Martin Childs is magnificent and the period recreation is flawless. Astute direction by Allen & Albert Hughes, with impressive supporting performances by Heather Graham, Robbie Coltrane, the late Ian Richardson, Jason Fleming, Katrin Cartlidge, Susan Lynch, Paul Rys, Lesley Sharp, and Ian Holm in a regal turn as Sir William Gull. In Victorian England a clairvoyant police inspector from Scotland Yard named Frederick George Abberine, played brilliantly by Johnny Depp is determined to capture the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper despite a growing sense that there is a massive cover-up to protect him. Allen & Albert Hughes's engrossing, stylish thriller which is based upon the acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore & Eddie Campbell

The best qualities are the foreground, lens-painted "sets," and the creative costuming and live-set choices. That said, it isn't anything "Forbidden Planet" didn't equal nine years earlier or that a lot of television fiction hasn't surpassed in the last twenty years. It's not as excitingly trashy as the title implies, and the action is relatively uninteresting, but the presentation is what should make you think about picking it up. The cinematography, art direction, costuming, and set design were all gorgeous presentations of some neat speculative fiction tropes, but then it meets the plot and the writing and the acting for a middling affair. "My first Bava film, and it's about what I'd expect. Admit it, you're jealous I got to see "Planet of the Vampires

It's not something I would go out of my way to see, but you can do far worse if you've got some time to kill. I can only recommend it if you have Netflix. It's a film that has aged better than others, but it still hasn't aged THAT well when you really think about it. It has some decent moments and it's never bad, but it feels incredibly outdated almost 30 years after the fact. Really, this is just average at best. The stuff in Australia, at least, had some interesting discussions, here and there, between Sue and Mick. And this is regarding the scenes in America. It's never bad, though some of the jokes are pretty bad, it's just that there's nothing underneath the outer shell here. Talk about empty. That is literally all there is to this movie. This movie, on the other hand, doesn't really seem to have anything going on story-wise past the bare minimum of Mick and Sue finding each other attractive and thinking that that is basis enough to build a successful relationship on. It had dual purposes. At the very least, in Coming to America, part of it was this African Prince adjusting to American life, but he was also searching for a wife to potentially make his queen. But once Mick gets to New York, nothing really happens past him and Sue somewhat flirting with each other and Mick getting into sitcom-y shenanigans. why not? They do it under the guise of that he'd get money for his tour guide business, or whatever business it is he owns. . . Mick comes to New York at Sue's behest because. The biggest problem in the film, outside of Mick and Sue's impending romance, there's no real story reason for you to invest in this. Some of it works, but not tremendously, and some of it really falls flat. Granted it's a concept that has been done to death in the ensuing years since this film's release, so it's hard not to be influenced by that when reviewing this. And I don't mean that in a condescending manner, not in the least, it's just saying that it's broad and it gets laughs from a large percentage of a casually viewing audience. The fish-out-of-water concept is one that you can very easily pull off and get laughs from the lowest common denominator. He definitely comes across as a charming, every-man. But Paul Hogan plays his role fairly well. Whether or not this set Australians 20 years back in the eyes of the world is up for Australians to decide. The stuff in America is every fish-out-of-water stuff you've ever seen with Mick struggling to adjust to the differences in his surroundings and the culture compared to his simpler lifestyle in the outback. But the scenes in Australia are far superior, from a more screenwriting standpoint, than the American scenes. Of course that makes it sound like this is a thought-provoking examination on the socio-economic oppression those in the lower class face, that's the first thing that came to mind, and it's obviously not that. Color me surprised when I find out that the first half, or slightly more than it, actually takes place in Australia with Mick and Sue spending some time together in the Outback, sharing their stories, philosophies and opinions. And it's what you would definitely call an inconsistent comedy. A lot of the comedy just doesn't come across as fresh as it did almost 30 years ago. This is the type of movie that would probably be better if I watched nearer to the time it actually came out. Not that it would set the world on fire. A surprisingly decent little fish-out-of-water comedy here

Right a bit suspenseful and dramatic at parts Plot well there is not really one two people have car troubles and have to stay at a motel where there a tormented and have to run for their lives to survive from the owner of the motel (who looks like the Simpsons Ned Flanders) and his goons Actually a slight of a silly movie out of all the guest who stayed there and was murdered these people are the only ones who put up a fight Let me tell you that if it was me I Would fight till my last breath to survive Worthwhile watching
