Promise Me This is a film written and directed by the award-winning Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica. An old man named Živojin Marković, living in a remote village prays for his grandson Tsane to go to the city, sell his cow and bring back a wife. In the city he is supposed to meet up with his grandfather's stepbrother, but this man is dead. Instead, he meets this man's two grandsons, two good-natured brothers who are nevertheless small-time criminals and experts in demolition. Tsane soon clicks with these men, and also falls in love with a schoolgirl (Jasna), who he wants to marry as part of his testament with his grandfather. He gets involved in this girl's family affairs, rescuing both her and her mother from prostitution and gangsters headed by a man called Bajo, and the new group of people return to the small village in time to celebrate Živojin's wedding to his neighbor, despite the gangsters' best efforts to stop the celebration, which results in a double wedding .
Lucy A (fr) wrote: Great character development throughout as well as great acting.
Alberto G (de) wrote: The movie had it's moment. Hoffman and Thompson made it more credible than it really was. There was no real chemistry between them, but they were able to project the feeling of loneliness so deeply, and that was enough to save this movie. Always wanted to watch it and I am glad I did.

Dave M (ca) wrote: I think this is the only movie that can challenge Rollerball for the dubious honor of "worst movie ever." This is totally unwatchable, except for the funniest continuity error in the history of film.
Jacob F (es) wrote: Utterly unbelievable, no-budget rapture film with Gary Busey, and Howie Mandel! Seriously a movie so ridiculously conceived and executed that if you tried to make a movie this cheesy you'd fail. An unintentional laugh riot.
Faisal A (nl) wrote: For the most part, it is a decent drama, but it has the mother-of-all simplistic endings, that undermine the characters and truly betrays any meaningful substance the movie set up to explore. Samuel L. Jackson is very good and keeps you invested throughout.

Ian W (gb) wrote: It's hard to believe that Leonardo DiCaprio has still not won an Oscar to this day. His performance in this at just twenty years old is superb. Sadly, his history of Oscar subs started here. Superb.
Kyle B (jp) wrote: It's a good movie though it runs a little too long and has several good stopping points that it doesn't use. Dreyfus gives a great performance but it is Headly that stands out.
