Jonathan B (es) wrote: So it's not great a great movie but it does have John Wayne in it so it's not all bad. Wayne is one of those incredible Hollywood actors that made it really big but I've never really been able to fathom out why. Here, he really is the classic caricature of himself. It's all there. The walk, the voice, the attitude, the lot. He even gets to wear a cowboy hat in a scene despite playing a 'Red' Adair inspired oil well fire fighter. The plot really is pretty dull with the fire fighting scenes doing little to add tension or excitement which is a real lost opportunity I feel. The whole film has the feel of a tedious soap opera that lumbers along trying to be epic and melodramatic and actually looking cheap and dowdy. Katherine Ross and Jim Hutton add nothing to the proceedings as the young love interests although I must admit, I did rather like Vera Miles as Wayne's estranged wife. This is a clich riddled, plodding and, frankly, rather dull movie that probably cost more to make than it should have and really hasn't aged well at all.

Rachael H (it) wrote: A crazy, funny film about spirits and a man seeing the ghost of his dead wife. She tries to break up his marriage and he tries to vanish her. The crazy fat little mystic who tries to help the ghost disappear is funny; being racist and arrogant. Her ignorance when trying to help and taking to the ghost's feet is amusing. The twist at the end is good comedy and feels like the perfect ending. It's a weird film and you do feel sorry for the lead character Charles as the final scene approaches.
