Tony P (ru) wrote: Yet another foray into Australian horror cinema. The Babadook doesn't break any new ground in particular but is well executed. It concerns a single mother widower called Amelia struggling to control her rather challenging six year old son, Samuel.Sam becomes obsessed with a story book that just appears on the bookshelf called 'The Babadook.'Not your ordinary run of the mill children's story book it causes behavioural difficulties with Sam as he develops an obsession with the dark contents and his mother struggles on.Eventually its tentacles spread to the mother causing an Exorcist like reaction.Other horror films such as The Exorcist and A Nightmare On Elm Street all provide some ammunition for the screenplay it appears. The Babadook appears to be the ghost of Amelias husband who tragically died on the journey for Amelia to give birth to Samuel.Eventually Amelia gains control over the Babadook's 'control' and it is locked away in the cellar of the house.Good acting performances from the lead characters make an otherwise slow building affair quite good for such a low budget Australian B movie.
Joseph M (de) wrote: not terrible. Sort of a cultural nightmare in redneckville. Sam Rockwell does an amazing job and comes across as very believable. The cinematography and soundtrack is great. The plot is just bizarre. But it is not a terrible movie. Just a bit upsetting on the Stephen King tip.

shaun c (kr) wrote: The concept and storyline actually had potential. Unfortunately, as with many small budget films, the locations, sets, sound and camera technology were not up to snuff. The director seemed to know what she wanted to portray, and I hope that maybe someday she gets the budget to re film this little guilty pleasure using many of the same cast, hopefully with a little bit more experience under their belts. Place it on your "watch when no one is looking" list and enjoy.

Brandon W (fr) wrote: Whenever I bring up Super Troopers, she goes crazy over it as it's her favorite comedy movie. I watched it before, but I don't remember much about it. So with the sequel coming up, I'll give it a shot to watch it again to realize why my best friend loves the movie. After watching it, I understand why, a bit though. Super Troopers is not my favorite comedy movie, but it has enough laughs to keep me entertained. The cast are having the time of their lives and are just having fun, bringing Brian Cox with them too which he's great also. It's really funny, but there's a bit of misses here and there. There's one liners that are very funny and can be memorable. It did felt like the movie is a bunch of skits, but most of them are funny which doesn't really matter that much. Super Troopers is really silly, but it's a really good movie that makes sense about why this got cult following.

Aaron S (fr) wrote: Can't Believe anyone who thinks you need to be a Kid to like this, I personally love this film, only seen it 4 or 5 times, but I think it not only my favourite Culkin flick, but Jonathan Hyde as Cadbury is the star Role here, holding considerable grace and elegance as the charming yet rather Stiff upper lipped Butler. The Film has a lovely retro satellite system like an ancient funk Sat nav system which I love and the very real theme of Billionaires who don't want to take for themselves but to help others, with the greedy, cruel, Morally Questionable role being the main Villain. It's Campy, Silly and Sweet, not to be taken with a good amount of Academic understanding, just to be taken as non serious silly pomp esque fun. The overall Moral is Money can't buy you friends I guess, the great responsibility of Being a billionaire and the Sacrifices one has to make such as a proper childhood, Richi's Corporate 'friends' are more the stereotypical representation of the next Brown noses in training, but our protagonist just longs for games of baseball, and to use his lonely theme park, Quad bikes and Fast food outlet with real friends and embark on some sense of Adventure, and get's just a little more than he Bargained for. It's a Done and Done again routine, but the setting really brings about a jolly feeling as if we are actually looking into the childhood Life of someone else with a big house and a butler....Bruce Wayne?? lol, but seriously, If you forget your 'adult holding' sit back and just be a kid, this is a humorous, charming, Wacky little Film :) .

Bradley K (de) wrote: Though the performances were stellar and Lumet's direction both intriguing and masterfully subtle this film is predicated on one of the worst fallacies in cinema, that a great play or novel makes a great film. I would have much preferred to see this on stage and a more uniquely cinematic film in it's place. However, I was fascinated by the narrative and the characters, always wanting to peel back that next layer.PS. No one ever insists that great video games, essays or paintings would necessarily make great films...
