Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel

Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel

Sir Percy is forced to return to France one last time, to rescue his wife from the clutches of the sinister Robespierre. It clearly is a trap, but nothing will keep the good old Pimpernel from carrying out his mission. He is up against the usual clods and dolts, after all.

Paris is Burning! Under the Iron Fist of Robespierre hundreds are executed, by the swift and bloodstained guillotine. Through these acts of injustice a new heroism is born - The League of The Scarlet Pimpernel. . You can read more in Google, Youtube, Wiki

Very witty, funny, realistic, and most importantly, it's modern romance in HK style. Never a fan of Shawn Yu and Miriam Yeung but I think they did a marvellous job this time :)

SV G (fr) wrote: Very deeply emotionally driven story that is told in a subtle slow moving pace. Their is wisdom there as otherwise it would be very hard to handle. Perhaps at some moments a little too over the top, however the perfection and excellnce of all in this film make it work. Every single performances is amazing.

Michael M (mx) wrote: A movie based around a twist ending, if done well, will have you rewatching the film and asking "how could I not have seen it!?" Session 9 does not do this. It may seem odd to mention the ending this early in a review, but that is such a fundamental aspect to what is wrong with this movie. It makes an admirable restraint from gore and outright scares, and tries to build rising sense of dread. The characters engage in a lot of pretty well written banter where we get to know them and their relationships with each other and discover everyone has their secrets. It slowly cranks up a sense that there is something wrong, and that something or someone in the asylum is after them. And then it does nothing with any of this in a preposterous ending that comes out of nowhere and makes everything building up to it insignificant. I didn't predict the ending, but there was no way I could, so rather than being surprised I was just pissed off. Everything up to the ending is really just okay. The film sort of meanders about with a few exceptional moments. With a better ending, it still could have been something interesting, but instead it just comes off as lazy filmmaking.

Christian L (mx) wrote: well, it was a good idea, anyway. aside from the stellar visuals and soundtrack, Nine(the feature length film, and not the short film), fails to present it's bleak subject matter at a deserved level; and is victim to formulaic storytelling and other like trappings. it also doesn't help for being too short and unnecessarily rushed. what's worse, by far, even, is that the material necessary to make a successful movie is all there. but the filmmakers didn't, seemingly, make the effort.
