The original SCREAM. Fun, comedic, and almost genius. A wonderful satire on the slasher genre

arl ManesI Like Horror Movies. This origin story was better left untold, but in the end, Morgan Creek got exactly what they wanted: a bland, bloody shocker that they could market to the masses. Rather than try anything new, Harlin attempts to recreate the bedroom scene from the original EXORCIST within the confines of the church, only this time, he uses a ridiculous villain that brings only laughs instead of chills. The pathetic use of sound design to force audience reactions proves how unscary the film really is. Stellan Skarsgrd has become tired of his role as Father Merrin, having already acted out the entire script in the earlier version. While it is certainly more fast-paced and unexpected than DOMINION, it fails on almost every other level. Harlin's version has all of the trademarks of a major studio flopbuster: jump scares, forced sentimentality, over-the-top make-up and effects, and most notorious of all, the twist ending. With his faith in God restored, Merrin will come face to face with the devil in a final conflict!THE BEGINNING encompasses everything that is wrong with Hollywood, and demonstrates just how little studio executives know about their audiences. As the seal to the temple is broken, an evil falls upon the land, and a young boy begins to experience symptoms of demonic possession. To that extend, it succeeds, but at what cost?In THE BEGINNING, Lancaster Merrin, a former priest, is hired to recover an ancient artifact that is believed to be resting in a newly-discovered church buried beneath the sands of East Africa. After Morgan Creek decided to pull the plug on Paul Schrader's version for putting matter before splatter, they brought on a director who was sure to deliver more action and scares. Leslie Nielson entertained audiences with the comical REPOSSESSED in 1990, but if ever there was a spoof on THE EXORCIST, it is in Renny Harlin's prequel THE BEGINNING

A lot of great footage, but very amateurish at times - don't be scared to ask for a second take if the lighting, sound or other conditions aren't ideal (also, don't let your interviewee smoke)! Included in the DVD is a compilation of crop circles which are fun to look at - for some reason they make me happy while looking at the "symbols. " The fact that so much legitimate research has been done with no resulting answer is most intriguing. The differing opinions on crop circles is really refreshing in that it shows no one has given up and "all are human hoaxes" or "it must be supernatural. A lot of genuine intelligent people from many different disciplines are interviewed for this documentary. The best documentary on the phenomena that I know of

. . Very good film-making, but painfully boring

Ultimately works as flattering homage

So bad, just so bad. not. . . You'll love the moving background scenes. Youch, this is a bad one. As a guy who really liked High Noon, I just have to figure this film wasn't good for Cooper's career. It was before. I then looked up High Noon to see if this film came before or after. But being a farce doesn't make this any better of a film. Based upon the information I discovered, it is a farce. It was so bad I figured it must be a farce. 130924: I had to research this film a bit

I did like the result of the game of chicken at the end. The only good scenes are the ones involving angel magic/interaction. I doubt that bit of information will ruin the movie for you. A kid pretty much gets lessons in cool from an angel that turns out to be his father. If you get nostaglic for early 90's movies, this might be a good one to watch

To boot, the lead may've been the only decent actor. Nothing much outside of Val, even the camera was particularly shitty. He is his usual sexy self, though delivers some crap lines. or less cameo. All money must have been spent in getting Val Kilmer to appear in his 10 min

My second "queer cinema" documentary; there should be one made every year since more changes are being made more rapidly and it will be interesting to see what the effect on the media is with the recent release of Bruno, which is what a lot of these GLBT advocates and members have been hinting at wanting. Ultimately gives lots of recommendations for me to track down, and speaks out to "young filmmakers" demanding unexplored areas to be filmed and released. Quickly discusses defining movements in queer cinema on a time line, mostly American films: controversial scenes, sexual liberation or simply filming liberties
