Celebrated director Chu Yuan helms "Descendant Of The Sun", a Superman meets Hercules a la old style martial art film. Derek Yee is a magic solar baby sent Earthbound by a benevolent god, raised by an old carpenter, has martial art superpowers and "green kryptonite" loses them during solar eclipses. Jamey P (br) wrote: Simply one of the best films I've ever seen. The Lives of Others isn't your typical cloak and dagger drama. The direction and acting are hand-in-hand flawless. The story is slow but unfolds in riveting fashion. A masterpiece plain and simple.
Matthew M (it) wrote: The world's most formulaic (to the page number) script, with stilted EVERYTHING. Add onto that Meg Ryan's awful acting and garbled accent, and bizarre directorial moves left and right (why are we staring at this person? Move the camera. Someone, move the camera). Here's a great screenwriting tip: If you can't tie up all the loose ends you've laid out, especially the complex emotions of your two protagonists, make sure they stare wordlessly at each other in the final scene. That way unintelligible emotions can pass over their faces, and then one of them can start a slow clap, that even the villain joins in on. Great. I also hate boxing.
