(es) wrote: Anthropoid explores the disturbing time when people in Prague were living in fear during world war II. We all may know the story about Jews being put in concentration camps and Hitlers rein over Europe. The plot about two Czechoslovak agents Jozef (Cillian Murphy) and Jan (Jamie Dornan) who arrive to their homeland. On a secret mission to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, a Nazi architect. The film is probably one that will be used to show this other perspective during the events of world war II. Which based the event when these two Czech agents are held up in a church being surrounded by the Germans. Which they will never surrender and be tortured for their assassination. Plot was promising, but Anthropoid does fail in delivering a suspenseful historical film. The direction was slow moving and boring. Feels like the direction struggles in trying to build the suspense. Especially, when every opportunity that he was able to pull us on the edge when Jozef and Jan are hiding in these two ladies apartment and making a plan for the assassination while the Germans are patrolling and at guard. The shootout sequences were not that great at first when the director focuses on a lot of quick camera movement and quick edits to create a little chaos. The climax shootout sequence does get a little better. But the emotional connection with the two characters were not fully developed. They try to build a little character but it turns out flat. Anthropoid could have been a strong emotional historical film if they had more of an inspired music composer, better cinematography, stronger character development, and a suspenseful direction. But it lacked in nearly everything except for having a newly adapted plot on a new perspective.

(ag) wrote: Complete utter disaster of a movie. Nothing works: the plot is all over the place (above all it's boring), and the adult actors seem to be sleep walking through the entire movie. After establishing the basic premise of the story, it gets stuck in a pattern of repeating the same things over and over again with a twist here and there until the finale. There were just too many actors and not enough story to make it feature length movie. The "horror" scenes are either unintentionally humorous or just crap. Ironically for a director known to build tension and atmosphere in his movies, the creepiness of the famous haunted hospital is completely lost. Such a shame as this could have been a great movie. Don't bother with this drivel. One of the worst J-horrors I've ever seen.

Their dreams & fears, their very few smiles, and their recurring disappointments will flood you and sweep you off your feet. But most definitely will make you wish for their sincerity, forgiveness, and contentment. Ali & Zahra will remind you of the most important things in life; the things that are really worth racing your heart out for, and will remind you that being a winner might mean nothing at all.Brilliant piece of art!

The perception of honesty and terrific atmosphere are hard to describe in words, but one that comes easily is "Great."

(fr) wrote: The premise is interesting and yet absurdly stupid for anyone to attempt. The cinematography is flat, television style, but the editing retains some of Lang's characteristic touches. It's got some good twists and all and all is worth a watch.

While not well done enough to seriously address the propensity of the populace to easily search for new relationships before ending existing ones or the backlashes that accompany such actions, the attempt at depicting the shallowness so prevalent in relationships today coud have made for a much more realistic film/story if it had just abandoned the unrealistic outcomes that were easier to depict. It really is too bad as this film could have been a statement about the state of love, and more importantly the attitudes of the masses today, instead of the unrealistic, cheesy, and mixed bag of bs that made it onto our screens. It's stuck in limbo as its not particularly funny nor dramatic enough to be enjoyed given the subject matter. Really is too bad...

The dialogue and the cast are all perfect and very memorable. Sam Jackson and John Travolta in this film have the perfect chemistry. They will have you crying in laughter. Of course you still get your Tarantino violence. A must watch film for anyone. A top 10 film of all time.
