James E (kr) wrote: As music docs go, The Swell Season gives us amazing access. The filmmakers manage to capture Glen and Marketa's incredible performances in a way that makes each more powerful than the last. But, the film is elevated by its at-the-table intimacy with its subjects as their relationship begins to deteriorate. The performance at Radio City Music Hall is a show-stopper.

Ariel R (nl) wrote: El nico acierto del filme es que te mantiene al borde de tu asiento y hacer un par de ruidos extravagantes para asustarte, pero al final de todo falla.

Emmanuel F (de) wrote: Well-done period piece from Hong Kong's past. Revealing experiences of life in that time and place.

Ruth H (ca) wrote: It was a sweet film which tackled a heavy topic with lightness and humour as well as showed the vulnerability of the human condition. Highly recommended.

Andrew K (ru) wrote: Perfect film for the current recession and the world going into the crapper. Not even the Easter Bunny can escape the depression of our times. But at least he can get a really nice lay from time to time.

Brett C (ag) wrote: Review In A Nutshell:Judging from its premise and its first act, I truly thought that I was going to love this film. It seemed to be trying to grasp an idea that was somewhat similar to what Sam Mendes was trying to convey on American Beauty about "normal" society, but as the film kept running, flaws started to appear particularly in its core story between Enid and Seymour. I was not able to connect with the relationship that the film was trying to establish, not for a lack of understanding but rather I felt it could have been handled differently and still would have produced a somewhat similar effect. Though this sort of criticism is purely based on subjectivity and others do not have to agree with me. If there was one aspect of the film that left me impressed, it was Thora Birch's performance as the sarcastic outcast. Her performance, and the way director, Terry Zwigoff, handled it, allowed the character to become much more than just a protagonist but also a symbol for the unique and artistic members out there in society. These individuals simply want to express themselves and live a lifestyle that suits their needs, but society is simply not flexible enough to allow it; they see them as unpredictable and lacking in potential for achievement. The film, I felt does not resolve itself by emphasising this, but instead promotes the idea of avoidance, rather than demonstrating attributes of strength and will in order to cement themselves and express their existence to the world. I doubt what I was saying made any sense to anyone reading this, but it certainly felt rational in my mind. I suggest on giving Ghost World a go, as it isn't an awfully constructed film, it just didn't compliment my distinctive taste.

Ben C (it) wrote: This film has just about nothing to do with Bruce Lee; this film was released in 1980, 7 years after his death, as this movie takes place at the '1979 Karate Championships' that supposedly determines the successor. Out of all the actors in this film, the only one that gives a somewhat great, if not, decent performance is the anchorman, Adolph Caesar. Ironically, he seems to have his final thoughts with words and opinions taken from both Fred Williamson and Ron Van Clief, who believes that the match to determine the successor is unnecessary, and believes that everyone else other than Bruce Lee is an imitation, respectively. If you want a good Bruceploitation movie, I'd advise to look elsewhere.

Jayakrishnan R (kr) wrote: 84%Saw this on 4/1/16The incredibly unbelievable true story of Papillon is what sets it apart from many prison break films despite it's glacially slow pace. In this Steve McQueen epic, prison escape is extremely different from his own The Great Escape. The escape has no real point, it's simply a desperation of the character to break free and it may or may not be the right thing to do. Steve McQueen provides a terrific performance as the titular character with unbelievable character transformation shown in a mainstream cinema and Hoffman equally contributes. The film has a few strongly memorable scenes, definitely.

Scott C (mx) wrote: Groundbreaking subject matter for its era. Incredible production values and atmosphere. However, I feel the storytelling is a bit muddled, as I had to read a synopsis after watching the film to understand what it was I had just seen (hence the 2 1/2 star rating). Still though, this proves yet again that Frank Capra was one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
